  • Economic downward spiral or Boycott?

Is this something that is acceptable?

    LFS charges admission fee!

Since we have quite a few different people here that view our economic status differently maybe we can get some different opinions on this...

I, myself would probably stop shopping here.....so what if they have a crosshatch trigger that is super nice....but to charge an admission fee?

I can think of a place nearby that I would not be surprised if they started doing something similar!
Any guesses who that might be, hmmm?

      hmmmmm.....

The only place I can think of that is close by to you is making a killing already by overcharging for the items they offer so one person would probably pay for quite a few cover charges...

Re: Economic downward spiral or Boycott?

BLEH....there are two points that I would like to make.

#1) If the owner started to see that his profits have dwindled from $1000 a day down to $200 a day, I would say that's it's safe to say he needs to do something to ATTRACT customers, not deter them. I'm not claiming to be an expert...nor am I an accountant, I'm an architectural engineer...but I think I have enough sense to understand that charging people for things in the middle of a time of "economic hardship" isn't going to have people running to the door begging to buy things.

#2) If I'm going to get charged, I'll pay the $7 extra and go to the freaking zoo. I can see land animals AND a giant aquarium with sharks and sting rays (not "nemo's").

I make pretty decent money...and I understand that everyone is trying to make a dollar here and there...but geez...that's ridiculous.
Just my two cents...I went to my LFS to buy suction cups for my new eheim. I ended up buying some fish, some chemicals, some bulbs, some food, a candy bar, a sprite, AND the damn 99 cent suction cups.
If you tell me that I have to give you a dollar and gamble if you have the suction cups I like....just to see your selection....I'm sticking my dollar back in my pocket and giving you a funny look.
I'm not paying someone to let me browse.
        Again, just my two cents.

ps- this deep rooted anger may have come from the fact that shell charged me an EXTRA 5 cents a gallon for using my amex this month.
My car uses premium and a drive a poop load....that dang 5 cents really added up. My gas bill was $992.67...I just thought I was getting amex reward points by paying it off every month.

Re: Economic downward spiral or Boycott?

I don't think I would go there either. If my lfs started charging me a cover fee I might go broke. :) I like to go look and see what they have new. Sometimes I buy $50-$60 worth of stuff and sometimes I don't buy anything. It's the point that I have the option to look and I believe that should be free. It would be like the mall charging you a fee to shop. I would just have to scrach that store of my list. I know it's just a $1 but if every store charged you a $1 cover fee, how much would you spend a week? Let me see, we went to the mall sunday and I would have spent $7. It would add up quick.

That would be the worst thing an LFS could do. They have already lost a ton of business to the online suppliers. An admission fee would make the LFS lose the rest of their business to the internet. Dumb, dumb, dumb.............................

yeah i think it a silly idea. but it didnt look like a very well run fishstore anyway. since i saw jellybean parrots for sail. and it looked like he wasnt saying anything about having raised salt fish. seems all were wild caught. i know there isnt a lot of captive raised salt yet, bu if he had it he would probably of said as much. ohwell he probably wont be around too much longer charging a cover fee.

I have to admit, I didn't and still haven't clicked on the link provided. LFS and admission fee should never be in the same sentence.

If he needs a dollar from people to come and look, then he needs to do so by adding in his pricing so its not obvious.

Re: Economic downward spiral or Boycott?

I'd laugh at someone if they tried to charge me a cover so I can come in to potentially buy something from them. That store owner won't ever have to worry about having that particular arguement with me, though. One more idiot wasting oxygen.

Spoke with some of their local club members and no one goes there anyways......everyone says that he is the type to ask you to leave for asking too many questions.

Although, I believe it is premature to take this kind of action, it might be something that we will see more of, if the "Devine" Obama cannot "Hope & Change" our economy around for the better.

                              How was that EK...?  :)

YES......it would be acceptable to me, if the customer service and business practices where above average and the store was in general, well liked.
