  • Has anyone ever used the Turbo co2?

I know I know, I should just splurge and get a co2 unit but I'm not ready for that yet. I just wanted to dibble a little and see how things go. If I decided I like doing co2 I will invest in a total unit and put this one on a smaller tank. Just need to know if anyone has ever used it and did you like it? Here is the link:

I'm not really that mechanical. I read about these and you can put them on a timer so that they turn off at night. That's the part I liked about it. I thought it would be easier for me to just be able to plug and play.
Ek, I knew you were going to be the first to give me a hard time.

Ek, Btw: I still have those mangroves, maybe a little co2 will make them grow before I hand them off to you.

The turbo co2 is a yeast fermentation set up so you technically cannot turn it off other then by removing it from the tank.

Honestly you could make something that actually puts a decent amount of co2 into the tank for a lot cheaper.....2L coke bottle, packets of yeast, sugar, airline tubing........voila!

I'll trade you some mangrove plants for co2 class. :P

              Sure!

I have a killer recipe for some that would just about compete with pressurized

I've used one which is currently listed in the Fish Market right now. It worked great and for a yeast setup it also has the side benefit of adding additional circulation to your planted tank. Although I put a timer on mine just so the pump wasn't running all the time, the ad is very misleading. All a timer does is stop the pump, as EK stated, the co2 continues to come out. If your looking for a store bought yeast system though, this one IMO is the best. The only draw back to it is the same as all yeast systems, you have to keep replacing the yeast. Once you go pressurized, you will never go back.

Thanks ponyrandy, I appericate your response. This is just something I wanted to play with and see how my plants do. I figured if I could try it for a few months then I would go with a pressurized co2 setup later. I have 0 experience with co2 and just wanted to do a little research before taking the plunge. Also I wanted to give myself time to see if I actually want to keep doing a planted tank or maybe try something else before spending $$$. Maybe if I'm really good for the rest of the year Santa might bring me one for christmas. I plan to put it on my 90 gallon for now. I'm sure a little co2 would be better than none at all. I also have a 29 gallon planted that I can move the turbo to if I decide to go pressurized on the 90.   I'll just be using it as a toy to play with for right now. I looked at some other's and all I saw was bad reviews. This one had some good reviews and it's really not that expensive. Even the refills are pretty cheap. So I figured what the heck! I went ahead and ordered it.

You will be happy with it. My only suggestion is to use a homemade recipe for the yeast once you run out of refills. You will not only save a whole lot of money, but will also get better results with it.

The only thing you get with the Turbo co2 is the bottle and a small red sea powerhead which doesn't do that great of a job "crushing" the bubbles.

You could have easily gone with a simple 2/4L bottle and any powerhead since the yeast mix that comes with the RedSea unit is inferior to those that I have used in the past.
