CAK has 17 members from fishbox, 10 from marsh (friends who also keep freshwater), and more than 15 from outside the forums.

Despite all the joking, we do have legitimate members so far, and to be honest, that's with people thinking that we're kidding.
Everything has worked out really well due to a few private donations so far. Legally, we can not accept any money yet in the name of CAK since we aren't registered yet, but it's there when we need it. We actually have enough money to fund the expenses of a non-profit organization easily, which is around $2000 all together.  However, we are still deciding if we want to go that route or not.  

Since we do not require "dues" or make our members "pledge", we rely mainly on private donations. Because of this, we are re-thinking the non-profit organization route so that we will be able to provide these few individuals with tax write offs. David's co-worker actually sets up corporations and non-profit organizations for a living, so we got very lucky there. We are just trying to make the best decisions for everyone involved in CAK, supporters and members alike.

We are not sure if CAK will be accepted as a legitimate organization by HoustonFishBox or not. Once we have everything together, we will try to join the fishbox community. Again, that doesn't mean we will be accepted but we can only hope for the best. Despite HFB's decision, we will still have the website and we will still continue on.
Cak isn't just about catfish and other kool plecos, it's also about being able to let loose a little with fellow fish lovers. That is not to say that GHAC, HAS, etc. are uptight; from what I have read they seem like tons of fun.  
We hope to add as much to the fishbox community as HAS, GHAC, HLA, and the many others have.

Just remember guys, your aquariums wouldn't be able to run the same without a few good CAK's.

Actually, it's interesting that you bring that up, Phish.

David and I are currently discussing other species...we are thinking of adding sub categories, we just haven't figured out how.
It has also been brought to our attention that we may heed an "h" involved in CAK to signify it's in Houston.  

If any of you have any ideas, please feel free to PM David, Ek, or myself.

The only idea I have so far is: HO-CAK
Houston's Oddball, Catfish And Kool Plecos

We just can't figure it out. We really want to stay true and loyal to our simple original CAK...
I like the way "OH CAK" sounds better, if an "H" is absolutely necessary...we just need to put our heads together and figure something out.  :wink:

I am pleased to report things are proceeding well with CAK, what started as a simple honest and pure desire to root for the underdog, has turned very promptly into a mission, nay a movement that has grown at a proportion that is quite intoxicating.

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you, everyone, for helping us bring a dream to life. Your support and information has been invaluable and I personally am grateful to all of you who have helped to get this off the ground.

Alexa will continue to keep you updated on our progress as we work to get things going. We should have a method in place for official member recognition and a contact list going for the newsletter shortly, from there we can allow members to vote on certain issues until further arrangements can be made.
