  • To spaz or not to spaz?

Okay guys...this isn't my first rodeo with the whole "Hurricane headed our way!!!" get-up.

If yall recall Edourd (or however they chose to spell Edward)...all of us down here went into a frenzy. I've got enough tuna and spam to build a small boat.  8O
However, last time...i held off on buying the large battery operated pumps and I already drank all of my water and gatorade.
Lmao...sooooooo, what do yall think? Is it even going to be that bad? Better yet, do you even think it's going to hit here?
Or is this just another ploy for Frank Billingsly to talk for 15 hours straight?  8O

I would hate to hear from you in a few days/weeks and hear you say that you witnessed a horrible event and lost everything and are in poor health.

Re: To spaz or not to spaz?

i'm all the way up near the woodlands, so at most we're expecting some power outages. my area doesn't really flood. ever. regardless, i do have some battery operated air pumps for my fish tanks, but that's the extent of my preparations...

if i were in galveston, i'd be admittedly more cautious. prepare for yourself and family before you worry about your fish, imo. my house is insured so my priorities are self, family, dog, and valuables. i guess if worse comes to worst, just leave the tops off our tanks so our fish can swim away.

Did you get the additional flood part of the renter's insurance?

Re: To spaz or not to spaz?

OK, I grew up in Galveston and I went through 4 huricanes before I graduated from HighSchool, so let me educate you children.
The oil companys pay their forcasters big bucks & when they bring in the guys off the rigs and shutdown the plants on the coast, it is time to tuck tail and run !
For reliable information go to Computer forcasts.
Please note that 5 out of 6 models have the huricane taking a hard left after it hits land.   So expect some heavy rain and bad winds.
The good news is that we should not get more than 3' of storm surge in the Bay so if you have good drainage in your area you should stay dry.
If you have poor drainage, expect to get wet.  If you have trees near your power lines expect to lose power and power will be out for a few weeks if you live in the country.   If you are going to run, going north is where the heavy rain is going to be.  Best bet is to head west for Austin but if you're going you better go now.   If you wait till the last minute, you will never get out of town.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
