I have been a sci-fi fanatic for 50 years; I have read most every classic novel 3-20 times. Like Future History, and all the "Greatest SCI-FI of 19__" compilations.
I didn't see anyone mention the two mos favorite series of mine: "Space:Above and Beyond", and "Firefly". I got the season DVD of both, love good SCI-FI cinema.
I really liked the movie Battlefield:Earth, and my all time fav is Bladerunner...read the novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"
Some novels would be too hard to do in movie format (Dragonriders of Pern series, for example), but I think Dune was good for how limited the length was. I have read all the Dune series, and it really gets weird!
Sci Fi for grownups...what a great genre!
Working for a better Future for my Fish!

I went and saw Babylon A.D. last night. Don't waste your money. The movie was great all the way up until the end. I won't spoil it for you, but you will be disappointed.
I did love the look and feel of the beginning. It felt like I was watching a post-modern military shooter game come to life.
