  • The adventures of Ike and HawgHunter....

Well, Ike came through knocking my power out at about 3am. With the lose of power came the lose of water ( my neighborhood has it's own water supply.) I had a total of 11 people at my house....4 adults and 7 kids ranging from babies (2 of them) to teens (14 yrs) with not one of them knowing how to survive without power and water. And lets not forget the 2 dogs, 2 cats and rabbit....lol. Not long after losing power, I hear this crash in the back yard....seems a tree wanted to get a closer look at my new fence, my boat, rabbit cage, igloo dog house and ac unit.

Then came the rain.... Next thing I know I have a dang river is running under my house. The water rose to about 4 foot in my yard and was even deeper in other spots around here. A sewer line had busted close to my house, so there was this wonderful stench in the air.

We were flooded in totally for 3 days before the water went down enough that I could get my truck through. I was actually having to use my kayak to get down Dowdell Rd. with was a raging river. Actually had some fun with that. I would paddle up my street then over to Dowdell to ride the current back. Should have seen some of the looks I got....like I was crazy or something. But I informed them that they were the ones getting wet in the poop water....while I was high, dry and poop free....lol

Well, once the water went down, I decided to start cutting up the tree in my back yard....got out my chain saw and started cutting. Got alot of it taken care of before I broke the bar. It was a blessing in disguise. Due to my inattention I failed to notice the BIGGEST poison oak vine I have ever seen growing up that tree. I had cut through that stuff getting saw dust all over me. And with no water....well....should I say more? I was covered in the stuff. I haven't had poison anything that bad since I was a kid! So my bright little self comes up with the idea of scrubbing down with bleach. Usually works great....but only if you have water to wash it off. I didn't, so I sat for days with bleach all over me which caused this 'really bad' chemical burn over most of my body. It was worse than the poison oak.

So there I sat....cover in chemical burn....peppered with poison oak....no water or power....and flooded in, with no access to anything. To say the least I was miserable.

But, we made it....got my power back Teusday along with water....and got my digital services back the next day. Most things I had damaged can be repaired or replaced. And the chemical burn and poison oak has finally cleared up.

My heart and prayers go out to all the folks who lost more or all. God be with them on thier journey back to some kind of normal.

8O , what an adventure, or was it more of a nightmare.  It's great you have such a good attitude  :emtthumbs:
Reasoning with some people is like trying to nail jello to a wall...

You know....if it weren't for the poison oak and chemical burn it wouldn't have been all that bad....I now have a full arsenal stocked up to battle poison anything . I bought anything and everything I could find....it was driving me nuts....and since I didn't have internet access I couldn't look up to see if scratching would spread it....so I just grined and bared it....till i finally got somewhere with internet....come to find out, scratching just relieves the ich....once you have it, you can't spread it. The scratching was ON!!!! Once I was finally able to get a few showers under my belt I had it pretty much beat. I may love Texas, but I sure do hate poison oak!  Poison anything for that matter.

The following saturday after the storm my sister and I were handing out ice and water at our local CVS, and one lady came up to me and asked me for the boxes that the water came in.  Out of curiosity I said "Why do you need them?" She said that the roof to her house blew off and she needed them to pack up all her stuff so that she could move.  The supprising thing was that she lived only two minutes down the road from me and my roof didn't blow off.  The good thing is that she was alive and she didn't give up hope.

I am glad to here that you and your family are okay.  By the way did your cat have her babies in the storm?
Fish are people too, they just have gills.

I have never had poison oak but I have had poison ivy.  Last year my family and our neighbors were cutting down bushes and trees in out empty lots (That got flooded by Allison) And at the end of the first day we had poison ivy.  We had it for a week, that was not a fun Christmas.

I kid you not....my daughter 'just' ran in all excited....seems she had the kittens either last night or this morning.  She's under the stairs so I can't really get a good look at how many....but they look to be black and white like thier mother.

My daughter has a little collection going....all the neighborhood cats. 8O  We started off with one cat....we "aquired" the pregnant female 'right' before the storm, bringing her in cause she was pregnant and aparently homeless. You can now go outside at any given moment and there will be at least 2 or 3 cats somewhere in the yard. In the mornings it's worse....I've seen up to 6 cats in the yard!

My little sister wants every cat she sees every time there is a free cat or a cat for sale she wants it and my dad says "NO, you already have one we don't need anymore!"  We have seen what two or three cats have done in just a few months!

If any of your kittens turn out to be calico,  please let me know.   I've been looking for one without any success.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
