Well...okay.  Here it is.

We have 6 skylights in the house.  Apparently when you put a new roof on, you have to pull the skylights loose to get the shingles and stuff under the edges?  I really don't know, I'm just assuming.  Anyway, last Tuesday morning at 6am I woke up to the sound of rain.  Ah...I love the sound of rain....except when it's raining IN THE HOUSE!  8O Yes, water was pouring in through 4 of the 6 skylights.  2 in the dining room/fish room and 2 in our bathroom.  We got up and were running around getting our big 50 gallon fish bins from the garage to try and salvage some of the carpet that wasn't soaked through.  And I couldn't just put a little pan under a drip.  It was seriously gushing in.  So we called the owner of the roofing company and he called his crew to come tarp the skylights.  The carpet in the bathroom is going to have to be replaced, no matter what I did, I couldn't get all the water up and now it's mildewed.  

But there's more.  So, we paid for the roof when it was completed, but we are also having our wingwall repaired by the same company (different crew).  We are not paying for it all until it's all done, right?  However, we have paid in full for the roof.  So, then Thursday there was a knock on the door and when I answered, it was the roofing crew.  Apparently they are independents that the roofing company contracted with to do the work.  They are from Miami and came here to work because of Ike.  So, he asked me when we were going to pay Ray (the owner).  I told him that we had already paid Ray in full for the roofing work.  According to the crew, Ray told them he couldn't pay them because we hadn't paid him yet.  Total BS.  So I went and got guygeek because really...what am I supposed to do about it??

So guygeek called Ray to ask a) why he didn't have a crew here working on the wingwall and b) why the roofing guys were hear asking US why they hadn't been paid.  Of course, Ray gave guygeek the runaround, and then gave the roofing crew the runaround.  It resulted in the police at our house taking a report.  The roofing crew called the cops and now we have the cops here gathering information.  Good thing I never hid a body in the backyard...that would have been bad with the cops here and all.    We thought we were out of it now since the police were involved, but no...Saturday morning there was a knock at the door.  It was the roofers again.  What they think we can do, I don't know.  guygeek told them there was nothing we could do and it was between them and Ray.  So Saturday night, guygeek put a sign on the door that read "Don't you dare knock on this door unless you are refunding money to us OR your work is 100% done!  Otherwise, I am calling the police".  We didn't get bothered on Sunday.    

All weekend we had no workers here finishing the wingwall.  But they did leave their tools and trailer.  We've blocked the trailer in with our cars so they can't just take off.  But this morning there was another knock at the door.  I answered and it was a Sugarland Police Officer.  :)  Well, good morning.  Again, glad no bodies in the backyard.  He just wanted to confirm the information the roofers had given him.  a) We had paid b) The roofers had completed their job c) That Ray was still MIA.  We found out later that the roofing crew had come over this morning and Ray was here.  Ray left and the roofing crew called the police again.  (I had no idea any of them were here!)

So the moral of this story is....If you are going to kill your roofers, don't bury the bodies in your yard just in case the police get involved for any other reason.  

guygeek did talk to Ray this afternoon and supposedly they will be here tomorrow to complete the wingwall.  We'll see.....

So...you guys sorry you asked for an update??

Also, all Koi are livin' large in the indoor pond and doing very well.  :)  guygeek is going to order a new liner soon.  It's been a hell of a week.

Okay - I did ask.       Please tell me that this "Ray" did do things right when it came to fixing the Koi pond disaster?     AND
the mess !!!       That was so unprofessional.        So glad the fish are good w/ the indoor housing.

Well, Ray will not be touching the pond.  We are, however, taking the cost of replacing the liner and the cost for the labor to fix it off the cost of the rest of the work.  And we told him we wouldn't pay him until the mess was cleaned up.  The mess was cleaned up before we paid him for finishing the roof.

At work we instructed our General contractors to used local companies for all Ike related work. In the event that the work is unacceptable they can go after them. If not they will have just donated work to my job.
