I can see the headlines now:

Investigators are trying to unravel the mystery of the sudden disappearance of an entire roofing crew.  Cadavar dogs are searching a nearby debris pile of shingles and roofing nails, topped by a leaky pond liner. They are questioning neighborhood residents claiming to have heard unearthly screaming and moaning, then eerie silence, even the hammers went silent.  They are looking closely at two suspects who have a mysterious hole in their yard and are refusing to let authorities into their home or garage. The same couple is under investigation for other unrelated complaints.  People have filed complaints against them, saying they have been threatened by them with flip flops and an attack cat.

BTW - must of gotten turned around & missed the whole highway thing but Dan @ HAW gave me directions on how to find my way back..  :wink:  didn't leave empty handed either.  LOL    go figure?

Well, we talked to the owner this morning and we are going to take the cost of redoing the pond off the cost of our roof.  He didn't argue, and was extremely apologetic.  

It amazes me that people have no idea that fish are PETS!  I went out this morning and told him about what happened with the pond.  I showed him the bag of trash that we fished out, told him how the filter had been knocked into the pond, told him about the oil slick that was on the surface and how the fish were not able to breathe because of all this mess.  I told him about the koi that died.  I don't think he really 'got it' until I opened the garage and he saw the pond that Virginia brought over yesterday.  Here's how the conversation went:

Him:  What's that??
Me:  It's a pond that a friend drove down from Magnolia yesterday so we can save the fish from the pond until that gets fixed.
Him:  Wow!  Y'all are really into your pond, huh?
Me:  Um...we are REALLY into our FISH.
Him:  Oh.  So they are like pets then?
Me:   8O  Yes.  They are our pets.  They have personality, and we get attached to them just like you would with a dog or cat.  
Him:  Oh, no.  I'm really really sorry.

So then I came in and got guygeek.  He went out talked to him.  I'm not sure exactly how that conversation went except that the owner told guygeek, "I guess I'm a real son-of-a-EDIT, huh?" and guygeek said "The fact that you are still in one piece after dealing with my wife tells me that you got off lucky."  Guygeek is going to work out the cost of getting the pond fixed and tell them today.  The saga continues....

such a bummer... but it sounds like the owner is trying to make it right...  if y'all need help with repairs, let me know... I dont mind manual labor...

wow!  It is atleast nice that the owner took responsibility for his crew's actions.  I know that it does not make up for the coy that you guys lost but should offer some peace.  I hope everything works out for the best.  Shawn.

glad to hear that they will be compensating you in some form or another....
it never fails to amaze me how people are so unaware of other people's property, rather it be pets, ponds, or what have you....it's a shame that you have to literally put their face in the pot before they notice what a mess they have made in it....
