      Re: Busy Weekend

I was at the last one too. They spread items over several tables marked by colors. I think blue is the first table to be auctioned, the next is green then yellow. ..or something like that. People with items to auction are assigned a certain number of items per table, so their fish or other items can be found on all three tables.

If I recall bidding is highest on the first table and then the bidding gets lower and lower on the other tables. The best prices are the last table because most people are tired and or are out of money by then. And there are good deals to be had...if you can wait that long. But it depends on what you want. Items of your interest might be on first table only. Its fun though to come and see what is available when. If what you want isnt until the last table you can leave and come back to bid.

For the most part, the fish are brought in airfilled plastic bags like when you buy fish at your LFS and the ones sitting on the last table have been like that all day. Charles. President of HAS and  the auctioneer told me because of the length of time some fish may need to be in the bags is why there arent many SW fish.

Charles knows his fish and starts at reasonably low bids. It was my first and I found it interesting...though it does take the entire day and some of the early evening if you stick around to the end.

        Auction Update!!
Here is a link to the rules that explains the color order and how the auction works: http://www.houstonaquariumsociety.or...Forms_Page.htm
Also, here's a link to the main page for the summer auction:

Also, apparently there is going to be quite a contingent coming from the Hill Country Cichlid Club. They will probably bring some cool stuff.
Dave Schumacher from Dave's Rare Aquarium Fish is coming. He often brings stuff that you will never see anywhere else.
Another reason, in addition to the bagging issues, that you don't see much saltwater is that the stuff people bring is often stuff they've bred themselves and, of course, that doesn't happen much with saltwater.
Generally, I try to start the fish near where I know it's going to sell anyway. It saves time and makes it, I feel, a shorter day.
Toward the end there are some deals to be had for sure.
This part is just sheer speculation, but, sometimes its best to put your best stuff on the second table. Sometimes it starts slow. Sometimes people are late. Maybe people are just a bit out of it before noon on a Sunday. I don't know. But the yellow table seems to do pretty well. Order is red-yellow-green-blue if I recall correctly, but it's late and I'm not looking at the rules. By the way, if you see that special fish and don't want to stay to the end, you can move it up for a small fee. I'm probably going to bring 15-20 bags of plants and fish myself. Should be a lot of fun. Hope to see everyone there!
P.S. Call me at 281-565-4561 or Prosper at 281-286-2236 for a seller number if you're going to bring stuff to sell. Thanks!
