my balanced billing went from $227 a month to $439.  Needless to say I still owe them money.
I filled out paperwork for Fema ...I thought i would try to see if they could help me a bit... but all they did was send me paperwork to apply for a loan.  No thank you lol.

I know. FEMA kills me. I have 9 total houses absolutely destroyed in this hurricane and since I have some form of insurance, they won't help.
So what is the point of insurance?
If you're responsible enough to get insurance...you get screwed by the insurance and no help from FEMA.
If you don't get any insurance...you get FEMA help.
Some families are getting more from FEMA than people are getting from their insurance.
Don't expect help from FEMA, expect a application for a small business loan.  8O

Oh and for SHIGGLES look at the interest rate.

My business loan was set at 3.45%, extremely low. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I have good credit or I have low credit card bills.
The small business loan for my friend was set at 9.99% which is astronomical at $200,000. You can refinance for less!!!

My package says this:

By law, the interest rates depend on whether each applicant has "Credit Available Elsewhere." An applicant does not have Credit Available Elsewhere when SBA determines the applicant does not have sufficient funds or other resources, or the ability to borrow from non-government sources, to provide for its own disaster recovery. An applicant that SBA determines to have the ability to provide for his or her own recovery is deemed to have Credit Available Elsewhere. Interest rates are fixed for the term of the loan, are determined by formulas set by law, and may vary from disaster to disaster with market conditions.

Apparently, our "market conditions" suck like a pleco on dirty glass.  8O

Also, the loan is subject to credit approval. How are people who got screwed by the insurance companies and pooped on by FEMA going to have good credit? How can you expect anyone these days to have a good debt to income ratio?  8O

Hello Boxers,

Just my two cents worth, I'm at the library to check the e-mail.  The SBA appraiser came today! (1.5 weeks since filing the SBA application)  I'm still waiting on the insurance appraiser after filing my claim on Sept 13, 2008.  I thought that the insurance companies were to start the investigation of a filed claim within 30 days.

Back on subject:  I have not recieved the electric bill yet.  The generator cost $65 a day for three weeks!  Still no phone or internet.  Family is OK.  sunrise

i live in a 900ish sqft townhome, and my bill was on avg 120 and for last month it was 180, does that sound normal?  i only got a few tanks running...

My electric bill this month was for $582.. normal no more than $400
They tell me they will adjust it when they come around as my bill is an estimate.
I sure hope so it will come soon.

Got my sept bill today.  It's only about 2/3 of normal.  
Guess they finally read my meter and this reflects the power outage.

My light bill this month was $64 - thats down from my normal $300.  I was shocked and we only lost power for 18 hours during Ike.

Off topic: Better than a low light bill, tonight when going to my son's football practice we passed a gas station that was $1.99 a gallon!!  Not a typo.  I almost stopped to take a picture LoL
