  • Before you vote...

I thought I would post another video. Here's the link:

This slideshow honors one of America's finest presidents, Ronald Reagan, on his final journey. It also serves as a tribute to the late president's wife, firs...

Remember what a President is supposed to be. We haven't had one that fits that description for a while. Remember the love and respect that people have for a real President. Remember the worldwide admiration that such a President can engender. Whether you agreed or disagreed with him, we knew that he was honestly doing what he thought was best for our country. I'm not so sure about our current possibilities. I know that one of them has served his country. I know that one of them has shown that he loves his country tremendously. Remember what a real President should be when you go to vote.

Ok, fine Charles you convinced me...
I'll be voting Republican, supporting the causes you mention. Either seek therapy to try to change my way of life or maybe just join the Log Cabin Republicans.

I guess, going by those two qualifications, the one we have now isn't a "real" president Charles.

Ron Paul or Ralph Nader might fit those qualifications. I think McCain is a good man who served his country honorably. He has at times gone head to head with the current regime (I'm reminded of the 2000 campain when Karl Rove and the Bush campaign accused McCain of having a love child out there somewhere). He is for me keeping my guns. Something about him, though... If he wasn't a trickle-down advocate I might actually entertain thoughts of voting for him. I actually think Obama would make a decent president, it's just that his backers are the same Wall St. bunch that got us in this whole financial mess and he'd probably look after their interests before ours. <sigh> Looks like the lesser of two weevils again. I'll probably vote for Nader again.

                Re: Before you vote...

My point was that we haven't had one in Reagan's league since, well, Reagan. Maybe "real" wasn't the best term to use. But when you compare it to the last couple and our current crop of candidates...well, you can see why you need another, higher level to place Reagan. I don't know that either of these two guys can even come close...but I do think McCain at least has a better shot at it. He's proven his service to the country time and again. Obama's proven nothing.

                  Re: Before you vote...

Some day someone will explain to me what was so great about Reagan. Trickle-down economics started with him, and that jewel has fallen flat on its face from my perspective. Then we have Iran/Contra. Even though Ollie North took the fall for that does anyone really believe that a bird colonel had the stroke to pull that whole thing off without so much as a nod from the White House? I don't. Let's not forget the BNL and the Reagan administration's role in that. Also, during Reagan's admin. the deregulation of many industries was pushed through, resulting in higher prices for all of us. Taxes were higher then than they've been since. I just don't see why he was so great.

                    Re: Before you vote...

I am not offering an explanation along the lines as you have requested Mark, but I will say that after years of watching the Oval Office tenents go by, I thought Regan was the best we had since Kennedy, (who I was really to young to know anyway).

I was old enough to understand Regan and I thought his INTENTIONS where at least admirable in my opinion. He seemed to be "genuine" in his demeanor and character, at least that is how I saw him. I think he lived in a dream world, (as I do) but tried to make his dream part of our everyday lives as well. He was an Actor of course, and maybe I was just being gulliable, as I tend to believe almost every word anyone says to me, but, anyway, that's how I feel about Ronnie.

You may remember that while president, in one of his state of the union addresses, he confessed that in his opinion, this countries tax system was unfair and unconstitutional.

That's the kind of honesty that is missing from todays Government.

PS...I did like Nixon too, but that's just me...

                      Re: Before you vote...

                      Just to provide some perspective...

Trickle down economics, for all that people make fun of it, works like a charm. Government interference, as with anything else, screws up the works.

Reagan's policies ended the cold war, the major threat to our survival at the time. He created a national persona that Americans were proud of...as opposed to the liberals now telling us that we should be ashamed of ourselves.

                      This one's pretty good too...

Reagan is a polarizing figure. Those who hate him do so with a passion. Those who love him do so with the same passion. When people figure out that conservatives are right....because they are...they realize that Reagan was one of our greatest Presidents and one of the greatest political figures of our time.
