Re: Obama Sheeple YouTube
I am reading so many generalizations in this thread...with a few exceptions...that it's hard to take a good argument seriously, as it's not qualified by a rational overvirew. If you are a group of 10 year olds, and one of your group has force of personality going for them, that person may end up with most of everyone else's stuff through convincing arguments and force of personality. Several of you may be upright hard working rule following types, and don't really understand how all of your favorite stuff came to be their's.
This is a major form of capitalism...and we all say things like "he got it through his efforts, he must deserve it".
Well, how about when the other 10 year olds feel cheated by not having intended to end up without the stuff they put so much effort into aquiring? And they wisely get 3 or 5 together, go to the overly successful 10 year old, and take back all the stuff they feel is fair to take. Isn't that success through effort? And creative organizing, like incorporating as a group for common effort, to achieve a goal?
Many would consider the first 10 year old's success at ownership of other's stuff, fruits of their labor, as a form of theft.
Many would also consider the incorporated 10 year olds' action as a form of theft. This is where goverment and a society of laws comes in.
When smart people run things, it gets so screwed up and people get disillusioned with any form of government; the one factor smart people usually don't take into account is people's hearts, or simply put, how people really feel about things. Attachment to a family tradition transcends a new law designed to make things better for all people. Rules of behavior don't go over too well with independent people who hold their faith close to their hearts; fair play outside the family is a concept many understand, but they still look to insure their "family" or "tribe" are doing ok before others are given a fair shake. Human nature.
So, when too many laws and regulations seek to insure an intellectual level playing field, we get tax cheating, underground economies, and multiculturalism.
The USA has for a long time offered a semi-level playing field, but over the years too many smart businessmen gathered so much of the wealth and power that more and more laws and rules came into being, to help those whose skills were hard work, honesty, and loyalty...not things that tend to amass a large amount of wealth.
This is the biggest problem now with the economic structure of the USA...so many people, so many rules and laws, that fewer and fewer can achieve the American Dream.
Eliminating the multilayered ceilings we have for gathering lots of stuff and lots of money (tax brackets, liabilities, mandated employee benifits, etc.)... and replacing it with a structure that encourages less gathering and more handouts (sharing) is a scary solution to the general situation. A whole new path to success...having everything you need and want, without having a plan for success and the good luck to have it work, is not how we believe things should be. But, those who have no plan other than to work hard, follow the rules, and pay for stuff with money earned by working, this is just what the Doctor ordered. No more frustration, no more having less and less after working harder and harder for longer and longer. Quite a conundrum; since more and more are working class and fewer and fewer are wealthy through investing and entrepreneurship, with hard work but for much greater return.
Maybe if I think about it real hard I'll come up with a good idea and solve this conflict...just as soon as I put in another 60+ hours at work and cover my bills and expenses, and do all my water changes; and of course get a few hours of sleep, and watch a little Discovery Channel, and try to find some time to eat and grocery shop...maybe next month after the election.
:bshelp:
PS...this is a specific generalization, I realize I didn't cover everything!
