My wife had to go to the DPS office to renew her DL. Well, she was turned away because she did not have a passport or birth certificate with her. However, she did have her expired DL with her. Here is the deal. We are now all considered "unknown" in the DPS system in regards to citizenship. Although she had her voters registration card with her, they still turned her away. Last I checked, you have to be a citizen to vote. Anyone else experience this yet? If not, you will. We all will. :)

Well, I just went and renewed my last Tuesday (October 28th), and my birthday was the day before on the the 27th. I had no problems. I simply told the lady that my license expired "today" and I needed to renew it. I wasn't asked for any second forms of ID.

Of course, this was in Fort Bend County.. Maybe that made a difference?

I think it is because she let it expire by one day. And this did take place in Harris County. But I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

I kind of remember hearing something about this on the news. But I can't be certain.

To answer the question "What the heck is our world coming to?" well, this is due to the fact that our country is being invaded by illegal aliens. It will only get worse until we crack down on the invaders from the south.

So now my pale white, blonde hair wife with a voters registration card is now considered unknown in regards to US citizenship. That is silly. She has an expired DL with her picture on it. Useless. But they'll take a birth certificate without any photo I.D. Hmmm.......

I just renewed my DL on the 22nd of October. It had been expired since Sept. 13th. I did not have a problem at all....... they just asked to see the expired card and asked if any of the info had changed. I actually received my new card yesterday in the mail. I'm sorry that happened to your wife and I agree with you that the situation is stupid. I think it may have been that particular DPS office that you went to. Why don't try another and see if you get the same response.

Well there has been a new rule that the DPS is now following where they will start requiring more info for renewal to combat illegal immigrants from getting DL cards. I am sure that the enforcement of it will be spotty depending on the location and the person. But they are supposed to be cracking down on it. I cheer it but I know ACLU will try to sue for hurting illegal immigrants rights.

Right or wrong, it is what it is. Selecting anyone based on outward appearance would only lead to accusations of racial profiling. That said, it's probably yet another weak attampt at solving the problem of illegal immigrants.

For the record, It's the illegal part that I don't like. We need to make the laws allow for easier immigration to the US for honest hard working people from all countries and enforce the laws that already exist to keep out criminals.

this is not exactly the same but something that we all should be aware of--  as of the new year if you have a titled vechicle/ trailor/ whatever that has been signed & dated but not transfered with in the 30 day? period if will be subject to fines in very high amounts.   We are talking hundreds !!!  

Good friends have a trailor that they bought used and refurbished and were just getting ready to transfer and liscense since prior it was not in usable condition  [fixer-upper].   the person at the liscense place -"good you came now as this is what
jan 09 would have cost according to new law.

now I have notified my son who has such a "truck" he works on as affordable like many do.   his was bought long before my friend's trailor so who knows what it may have cost him so he is getting his wife to go get it done asap.

hope any this may effect do the same.   am going try to find actual rules that apply to this and will post.

How about Mexicans?
They sure as heck aren't United States citizens...they are citizens of a country called Mexico, ever since the Spanish took it over from the Aztecs, Toltecs, Mayans, and all the other indigenous populations there at the time.
They have a country and a history, same as we do.
They are Mexicans, they just don't want to live there 'cause it's such a mess.
Great.
