So here we are, Fishlady and I, out on Fayette County Reservoir again, not so bright, but very early.
It's supposed to be a SO SO day out there in Lagrange Texas, with some drizzle, temps in the high sixties and clearing as the day goes on. Fishlady, bags the first bass, while I'm playing with my new Abu Garcia reel.
And while I'm still trying to figure out how to adjust the spool tension knob and the brakes just right, here's Fishlady's next catch.
Yes sir, things are looking pretty good, the fish are biting and I've finally given up on the new Christmas Present I bought myself and have decided to fish with my tried and true shimano, and guess what happens next?
A cold front blows in and brings a freezing cold heavy drizzle with it that is making our fishing trip very unpleasant. This front is blowing our 17 foot Ranger across the bay pretty quickly, and it's pushing that very chilly drizzle almost sideways. It's cold and wet now, and keeping the boat from the approaching wall of rocks is now paramount. We decide to pull up the trolling motor and head back to the launch ramp.
There is a small levy to the north of us which you can see behind FL in the first picture, and it was buffering the wind a lot more than we knew, and as soon as we cleared the end of the jetty, the waves got really rough. Sorry, no more pictures from here on, now with the cold front coming in and the warm water from the power plant, we were looking at foggy conditions like the last time we went out to fayette.
Well, to make a long story short, the ride back to the boat ramp was a very exciting yet perilous one to say the least. At one point the bow of the Ranger went mid level into a 4 foot wave and the entire front half of the boat was swamped. The water blasted into Fishlady and I while we sat there stunned with hardly no idea where we were on the lake. Several times, the water came over the transom or gunwall, and all we could do was start up the bilge pump and try to avoid the bigger waves.
After what seemed like an eternity on probably the roughest water I have been on in my life time, we finally found the boat ramp. We came close to being beached on a shallow water point once, and our bow went thru five or six large waves, but we managed to get out soggy butts back to the boat ramp and get the Ranger up on the trailer and into the warmth of the cab/truck.
Here is the water logged Ranger back safe and sound in the warehouse, we've removed all the wet gear and have a large fan blowing on the soaked storage lockers and other compartments.
Talk about an adventure, it was just that and more......It's nice to be here warm and dry now, to share our little tale with you today.
Thanks for reading....
