    Re: How about the Economy?

    Well...

    let me say this....

    If you have travel overseas you will notice how a lot of countries are going to electronic funds. When I went to Aussie in 2001 it was the norm to see several ATM's on every street corner downtown. And the payment systems they were using in stores back then is what we have here now.

    They also was just starting to use the swipe that year. But the infrastructure was not fully developed yet.

    The US have been using etf for years between countries. And most large companies are doing it. Having cash in your pocket is starting to become a rarity with us finally getting up to speed with debit/credit card purchases for everything.

      This is why I am using this day... because if we are still here there are going to be ton of things that didnt work out.  At this point I am going to be listing to a lot of back pedaling and I just like to hear the excuses -- I am patient.

        Well, the amero would have to be backed by at a minimum Canada and Mexico so if... IF we did send 600 billion or whatever the number is to China, I say GREAT!!! Finally Mexico and Canada are contributing rather than sponging off of the good ol USA.

          .. but the important part to point out Delock is that you can still goto a bank in any of the counties you just mentioned and ask for a cash note.  This is not true in the new upcoming economy which is being pointed out to me by many "sources" will be gone .. as in no longer an option .. This is still something that is possible to do in those countries you just mentioned.. even though like you pointed out.. just like many others I rarely carry cash, as I use credit cards and debit cards for most of my purchases.

                          Re: How about the Economy?

                          The Mayan calendar is cyclical, and 2012 is the end of the "last" major cycle, not necessarily the "end".  The calendar is round, and it just keeps going.

                          Their calendar was based on the rotation of the sun.  Apparently, on that day in 2012 the sun will directly line up with the magnetic poles on the earth (I think it happens every 120,000 years), causing a slight shift in our poles.  This may seem pretty minor, but it could cause many earthquakes, Yellowstone to finally blow, etc.  And yes, there are fault lines here in Texas.  And we have major infrastructures that mother nature doesn't give a damn about (such as dams, power lines, etc.) and if they fell apart from a series of earthquakes, it could cause quite a ruckas.  Think about what Ike did to Houston for three weeks....

                          Also, if such a shift occured it would effect weather patterns and we could potentially see many changes atmospherically that would be long term.

                          The reason this could seem like "the end" to many people is than many city folks today do not know basic survival skills- how to hunt, can food, purify water, etc.  So, if, for example we had a water shortage because of the weather patterns shifting, then it could be each man for himself- no more grocery stores because the farmers are keeping their produce for their own communities.  This is why I support eating local produce and learning about regional plants.....

                          Anyway, I could go on and on about the potential changes from the shifting of the poles, but the bottom line is to be aware, have a community near you that you can depend on to pull together in a crisis (like the FB :)) and be open to any changes that may happen over night.

                          It's not going to be the end of the world and with today's fast paced society, and the way we all share information, I don't see how any of this will be too difficult....

                            +1 myjohnson.

                            It seems so redundant every year to spend more and more and more money.  A handmade gift, or a little something is one thing.  It feels so overboard these days.....

                              Re: How about the Economy?

                              Winter solstice is on 12.21.2012. The Myan calendar calls the end of the cycle to be on that date, however, they did not produce further dates. Why is that they already made a calendar that was 1000+ years beyond their current time? Secondly there are other cultures that believe in the end of the calendar on that date like the ancient Egyptians. The working theory out there is that because the Earth wobbles in its rotation they created the calendar on a cycle that lasts 26000 years. The Earth wobbles 1 degree every 72 years and they believe that on that date it will come full circle on the Earth will line up and have the Sun eclipse the center of the universe exactly which they feel will have cataclismic effects on the Earth. Some believe that this will cause a shift in our magnetic field the south will be north and etc. causing a dramatic change in our climates that will lead to famines and sorts. They believe that is what caused the great extinction almost 26000 years ago when most life vanished from the Earth and was the beginning of the modern human time. I say if it happens it happens let Gods will be done. So this is why I dont let things faze me that much nothing you can do about it anyways. So like Zulaab I am going to sit back and try to enjoy the show
