Yeah, stay out of debt as much as possible. Seriously.

it's not a matter of debt it's a question about investing in US auto makers. Stock is rock bottom now and I'm not sure they will be allowed to close the doors which means their stock will go back up at some point unless they go the way of worldcom (that sucked and hurrt)

It is getting a bit cheaper if I was in the market I would consider purchasing within the next month or so.

I gave a sale order for all my stock last fall, I have no market investment plans until after 2012... :)

Yeah, I'm sorry. i wasn't clear. The stock market seems ripe for the picking. The boat shopping is going slow with the stock market and real estate market looking so good, I LOVE my big ol 4x4 though and still have to sell Girlgeek on the boat but if you know of any 40ft+ motor boats for sale, I am still looking. It must have at least 2 private state rooms and Internet/cable.

There is a man at one of these chemical plants told me he was pulling his 401k to buy stocks(what?), his idea is- he is 10 years from retirement and this economy is just part of an 8/10 year cycle.....makes sense i guess, I hired into a plant in `91 stock had dropped from $80 to $4 about the time i came in,some of old timers pulled $100k out bought company stock and around `97 it was $70 and split ..so they did well.......But they still didnt retire-i dont get that!

I checked out some Ike boats but the cost to repair/replace electronics etc.. is prohibitive.

This is kinda my thinking as well. GM and Ford have too many union workers/voters for the government not to step in and both are huge conglomerates. retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be. My Father retired for a year and didn't really like not having a schedule to follow and I tried to retire from my industry and missed the pressure and the work. Some people aren't very good at retirement.

I have heard that some experts believe that the stock market will climb back to around 12 to 14K again, but they are also predicting a dramatic crash soon after. I believe there is moderate window of opportunity out there right now, if you got the nerve for gambling, but you won't see me investing in anything but MREs, ammo and silver.

And reload equipment so you can make silver bullets.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
