yep, since last wednesday. i was a bartender for On The Border.

I dodged it when it hit my workplace.... the news made it a massive deal which was totally wrong but yeah it was a close one.

Supposedly they have some sort of way of computing who should get laid off before the other and I happen to not be on the list.

Had some good friends get hit though.

Thanks to Hurricane Ike, noone has been laid off at my job. We are actually busy and we are using labor ready to fill the gaps. They don't want to hire anyone just incase things do slow down. So far, knock on wood, it's good for us right now.

No problems at my job but many companies are on hiring and raise freezes. I got my raise a day before they implemented the freeze at my job but thats also bc I work for the Controller and they knew it was coming soon.

I'm still here, for now, but our industry (decorative concrete) is down overall across the country by roughly 27% from last year.

Thank God, no. Had lay-offs in December and our department made it through.

I know things are getting tough out there. Paccar, the Dallas based parent company for Peterbuilt and Kenworth had voluntary retirement then layoffs in December and are planning another round soon. A local software company the Girlgeek and I used to work for years ago had a 10% RIF (Reduction in force) and 10% pay cuts across the board a couple weeks ago.

Same here.... you can probably imagine how many pissed off techs we had that went and became master certified and saw no raise.

But then again while others are being laid off or sitting at work twiddling their thumbs we have been swamped with work....
