I've always been against drug testing. If someone can do their job then I don't care what they do in their off time. But if they can't do their job then I feel that I should be able to toss the bum out witout any interference from the government. If you're self employed should you be required to take a drug test ? Think of all the med techs we could put to work.

I also think assistance checks should be for a set period of time and taper off with each payment. Sort of an extra incentive to get training and become productive. I really believe the government should spend more money on schools & training.

but I'm not a Politician, I'm an engineer and I used to make a living solving problems not kissing babies and other things.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

working in the public sector as i do..it's very sad for me to see some people that really need the help and aren't able to get any....as for the one's that are handed down "government aide" as a legacy bugs me to no end.....
they started drug testing employees when it started to become a problem of "on the job injuries" that were from being "under the influence" of some mind altering substance....whether it be booze or drugs....alot of people were getting hurt on the job and suing for large amounts of money only to discover it was because they were inhibited from performing the duty due to "altered states".....so they got smart and started drug testing to make sure it wasn't "their fault" and instead the fault of the employee for being under the influence....so as the old addage goes.."one bad apple"....
but if we have to be drug tested in order to work and make our money...."to which some of it goes to their aide fund"....then why not drug test them to get "their money" too....

I personally agree with with all the statements, hell i pay taxes also but the whole jordan shoe thing was really out there. True many programs where intending with good intentions but some where some how someone will find that loop hole and abuse it. Not to say that we should cut it off but only educate those that receive the aid and encourage them that they can do better and not rely on the government. Yes it does upset me, but at the same token their are ppl who received aid everyday who really need the funds. So with that in mind it ease my thoughts of MY tax dollars not just supporting some junkie that shelter jumps. Beside the govenment has shown that they will spend our money how they see fit, not how we see it.

thats life, some things just have to be gotten over.
oh that........ thats just my 300 gallon fish tank, nothing fancy.

i was in no way implying that people who wear a certain shoe, are all on welfare. i was simply saying that if you need gov't aid, then you shouldnt have the money for bar tabs and a $100 pair of shoes. Its the same with people that are living in gov't assisted housing projects, and spend money on a Lexus or put fancy rims on their cars. i agree that some people were just dealt a crap hand and they need our help. I have personally been homeless, but instead of expecting someone else to foot the bills, i got a job so that i could support myself. I was unaware that there was "gov't funded" clinics. If thats the case, drug test em all.

I bet TwoFronts owns a pair of Jordans....im just kidding.

Drug Screens at work are a means to help improve safety and a means of immediate termination, with little to no way to fight it.

I think that people living in Government housing with Big Screen TV's and Lexus's are most likely dealing drugs or being a heaping pile of cowdung and lying about thier real financial worth.

I've seen people do all kinds of things to lie to get government aid, and as long as it is permitted it will continue to do so.

From the literature I have read drug testing doesn't work and it costs more than it saves. It's a waste of money IMO and I know plenty of people who work in places with drug testing and still manage to get around it.

PS.......an interesting book to read on this subject is "Nickel and Dimed". It gives a good insight into the working poor.
