  • need help with video problem on pc

i am running on win xp sp2 (xp3 made my comp super slow) celeron d 3.2ghz with 1g ram, vga is old one, nvidia fx5200 with i think 128m... i been having problem running any video of any sort, it would be fine for like a min or two, then it just slows waaaaaaaaaaaay down... then it might be fine for another few sec, then just sloooow down again... i already format the drive and re-install my win, but it still does the same thing, i even tried my onboard vga... still does the same thing, what might be the problem? when it comes to computers, i am clue-less

that's odd. on my computer, my audio is dead. background window noises and embedded audio on a webpage (like youtube) are nonfunctional, though I can play audio files like mp3 and Cds and video files with audio like avi, mpg or DVDs just fine. It's not the audio card or ausdio settings, as I've tried that. Also the settings on flah player does not rectify this.:bs_quesexclaim:

everything was fine until 2 weeks ago.. i thought i got hit by a virus, then i format
the drive and start over, install anti-virus and such... but still the same, but i was still using the onboard vga... then i decided to go with my older vga... reinstall the comp last nite, install the vga... it still does the same thing, i think its the IE that is lagging... i got some videos before and they all play fine...

what antivirus are you using? I do not trust Norton, as I got infected on my old computer with Norton, and they want you to pay for yearly renewals. I use avast, it's free and it works.

Is it streaming video you are watching? Have you eliminated the possibility that it's your internet connection? When the video slows down, is it only the video or is it the whole system?

i used to use norton until i got sick and tired of paying for it every year, then i start using avg... i got full copy of that.. i also have full copy of mcafee, i was thinking its virus issue.. but i've only visit window update site, this site, youtube, yahoo.com, plantedtank, and a chinese streaming online video site (which i think might be whats making my video slow) but iono, anti-virus didn't pick up anything...

Mahoro... the machine you are telling me you have is almost identical to mine
I have a Asus A7V880 MB with 1GB ram, FX5900 VGA board etc..
I dont have an issue with mine, but since you just reinstalled, tell me this, after you installed XP, upgraded to SP3 did you have any problems with your video then ? It sounds like to me XP3 messed with your MB drivers, or potentially your VIA chipset drivers (incase your PC uses the VIA chipset). I would reinstall those drivers now, this resolved my issue the time I upgraded. Why because SP3 installs files that are not compatible with your onboard chipset.
I use free AVG on my computer and I have no problem at all with mine.
