  • Stock Market Slipping Again

    J. Fletcher here....anybody notice the market is creeping down again?
At this rate, it will be below 7000 by the end of the month....

My question is, shouldn't the market be heading back up with the passage of the 2nd stimulus bill?

hehe.. no clue. I refuse to watch. I currently only have my pension that is made up of traded stocks/commodities and after a quick talk with my advisor, we're still good to go.

      I love this:

This pretty much sums up how I feel.

          Thanks for posting....

I am hopefull that this crisis we are facing will not be long lived, but I believe we should make preparations for the possibility of even harder times ahead.

I hope it is. No one I've talked to wants to pay for their neighbors mortgage. I hate how the media is letting groups like ACORN get air time where they push the message that if we don't bail out our neighbors they'll be homeless.

Sure they'll be homeless, as they will no longer OWN a home. That does NOT mean they'll be destitute however. It just means they'll need to find a cheaper home to buy, a house to rent, or an apartment to rent/lease.

            Yesterday this was on KPRC:

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...o/6268175.html (couldn't find KPRC link, but this is the same story..)

What the hell? I'm supposed to pay for this? The woman that was getting evicted on the news yesterday was complaining that she couldn't pay her $1,800.00 a month note after the ARM kicked in from $1200.00 a few months ago.

THERE'S YOUR SIGN LADY! YOU SIGNED YOUR ARM KNOWING IT WOULD JUMP AFTER FIVE YEARS - NOW YOU WON'T MOVE OUT?? IF YOU COULD AFFORD $1,200.00 THEN YOU COULD AFFORD MY NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE I CHOSE TO PAY THAT AMOUNT WITHOUT AN ARM LIKE A RESPONSIBLE ADULT.

BTW, $1,200.00 WILL GET YOU ONE HELL OF AN APARTMENT TOO - A NICER ONE THAN I EVER OWNED.

            [/rant]

Sorry. I had to get that off my chest.

Im with you jeebus....what makes me furious is that I'm paying $1325 in rent for my loft and the people downstairs don't want to move out because they made a poor decision and signed ARM.

What did they think was going to happen? In my complex, we have 20+ renters who are "refusing" to pay their rent but also "refusing to move out".
At the block meeting they formed a "union"- meaning they pushed their pool chairs together and made poopy faces, they proposed that the rent be lowered for their condos because of the current economic state.
Really people...really people...YOU'RE LIVING IN AN OCEANFRONT LOFT OR CONDO, YOU'RE NOT "ROUGHING" IT.
I left after they suggested that the upper level lofts should be made more expensive to help compensate the costs of the lower level apts thus allowing the rent to be lower for them....I almost fainted.
I said I'd rather move out, so...I am.
Although I'm sure they aren't actually going to raise the rent.

Well, I can understand the fight to lower rent, but the concept that any of them would be "homeless" if they can't pay their rent and are evicted is beyond stupid.

With you, Jeebus....people gotta live within their means. S&P is headed south of 700 in my opinion. 33% of people in Texas who bought in the last three years went subprime--really a shame for the rank and files that make their house payments and make their car payments. In my opinion, the stimulus package isn't the end all solution. I don't think anyone has the answer, other than hunker down and try to stay employed. This thing ain't correcting in '09.

I am hoping that Ron Paul, who is still in the HOR, can bring some plan or form of action into the house that will introduce a real and visible plan to correct this nonsense of trillion dollar expenditures without review....it's nuts.

Trying to stay employed might be the only way to survive this admistration.

I'm reminded of a line from one of The Doors songs....."this is the strangest life, I've ever known"....What is happening in America is truly bizzaro...

                    Thanks Nick

If these people want lower rent, then they need to find a new place w/ lower rent!

Exactly...live within your means, whatever that is...live within it!
These people are driving around in BMW's, Land Rovers and Benz's and complaining about rent....
                        SELL YOUR CAR!
Get a nice economical honda and put the rest towards rent. Find a less expensive place to stay...make it work. But don't sit in a grumpy little group waiving your fork in the air and tell me I should pay for it because I can afford it!

                        These peeps are creepers!

You have to have the right stocks to benefit from the "stimulus bill".
Smithfield (Largest pork producer in the US) will be a great stock .But they can't supply 700 Billion in pork (The other 100 billion is actually constructive "stimulation"). But Smithfield cannot produce that much pork, what other stocks will benefit ?
