And if I'm correct that should only apply to grants and scholarships. I mean, if they would have applied for a credit card or a car loan while living with your parents then parental income wouldn't be an issue unless the parents were co-signing.

I dont understand the debate here. The key word in all of this is illegal. I am pretty sure that means against the law. That said in this case the law being violated is residing in the U.S. illegaly. The law should be enforced. Wether the government has an interest in enforcing it is not relevant.

Do you realize that each year all of us work until April to pay our tax burdens. We only get to keep roughly 3/4 our annaul income. I for one do not care to subsidize or help perpuate ANY social programs for individuals whose very presence in our country is a crime.

But that's the exact point I've been trying to make. There is NOTHING to state that the government subsidized this girl in any way. I take the way the article is written to mean that the immigrants get to pay in state tuition fees and NOT out of state fees. Like I said before, if someone could pinpoint the exact piece of legislation then this entire discussion would be put to rest. I don't think the government should pay to send illegals to college, but I won't say they shouldn't be allowed to send themselves. As written, the article does not definitively state that the law provides money for illegal aliens to go to college. Ergo, no ones tax dollars were used to "subsidize or help perpetuate ANY social programs for individuals whose very presence in our country is a crime."

You sure? 25% taxes is pretty high. Do you not qualify for any credits/deductions?

              there answer that question
Gotticgs, yes she did get tuition cheaper than other Americans living outside the state of Texas. She's not any more special then any other student, she went to high school here in Texas (legally or not) and therefore qualified for in state tuition. The government sat on their butts and turned a blind eye to illegal immigration. When you enroll for school kids do not even need a social security number anymore. But I know for anyone to receive grants (which comes from tax money) and to receive financial aid, you DO need to be a legal resident or citizen. Illegal aliens DO NOT quality for government grants and financial aid.

In no way am i agreeing with illegal immigration, our government has done nothing to stop it - and the one state that is finally standing up to it, is getting boycotted left and right. If we keep offering all these opportunites to illegals then they will continue to come. But at the same time, we cannot ignore the millions that are already here. Deport them? sure, but that's not going to happen, we know it, they know it. So might as well make the best of a crappy situation and get them educated to where they will eventually give back to America. I had to pay out of state tuition when I moved back to Texas, I had to take out loans to pay for college, and since graduating I'm still paying off my student loans.

If you google tax relief day you will find that this year it fell on April 9th, so it less than 25% but not much

You are missing the forest for the trees. You are arguing casual factors outside of the root issue. The individual in question was here illegaly. That is the beggining and end of the debate. It does not matter if her education was funded by the taxpayer or the tooth fairy, she had no righs by law by virtue of her illegal status

No, what I'm saying is that after I filed my taxes and got my return, my actual tax rate was less than 6%. Those paying 25% are making major bank that don't qualify for all the middle class tax cuts.

That is crap why should my tax dollars help her get an education when there are many poor CITIZENS that we should help get a higher education first. Give them a chance first over people who have broken federal laws.

So is the outrage over her being an illegal alien and getting to go to college or is it about her being an illegal alien and getting to pay in state tuition prices? They're obviously not being deported, so would people rather they just continue to mow our yards and clean our houses for cash and not pay taxes?

Don't get me wrong, it pisses me off that my daughter doesn't "qualify" for public preschool but illegals do and we have to put her in private preK even though we pay several thousand a year in property taxes already. But at the same time the schools cannot turn away kids like hospitals can't turn away patients because of their legal status.

Okay, do schools get subsidized the difference between in state and out of state tuition? If so, I see the complaint about taxes. However, if not - and the student paid her way through school, but just at the in-state rate, then what's it really matter?

This is starting to look like its going to come down to everyone not approving of a known illegal not being deported.
