News out recently since the torpedo sunk the S Korean military ship. The S Koreans are asking us to help them stand up to N Korea and asking to do military practices of the coast to show them they mean business. Japan's PM recently decided to go against a campaign promise of shutting down a US military base because of this incident.

I used to be such a hawk. But more and more I have become an isolationist. I am tired of all the countries bashing the US. So I have changed my foreign policy stance to say screw everyone we will pull all of our military bases from countries that talk down to us and bring them home or station them in countries that want us. Like our bases in Germany, Japan, Korea, and etc. and move them to Poland and other places. Now this just shows where everyones true allegiance are they bash us for political gain but realize that we still carry the big stick and they need us to keep their freedoms. I say we say screw it and tell them I thought you said you dont need us and that we are bullies. You will soon see what a bully really looks like when all the evils in this world start to spew over into your country because you cant protect yourself.

As well NK still has the support of communist China. Don't forget the US had this war in the bag after the Inchon landings, until 3 million Chinese flooded across the border.Last edited by Gene D; 05-25-2010, 10:01 AM.120g - Tropheus Moorii Kambwimba

While there are always deserters in any military including ours the communists/dictators/totalitarians have an interesting solution to this. They have individuals whose sole function is to stand in the rear and shoot anyone who appears to be less than zealous in their desire to engage the enemy. As barbaric as this practice sounds the Russians used it to great effect in defeating the Germans at Stalingrad.120g - Tropheus Moorii Kambwimba

You're thinking too far back. The Soviet Union in WW2 had been invaded and it was do or die. What the commanders did there was brutal self-preservation at the soldier level, i.e. what we did with MP's, courts, and prisons - they simply did with a sergeant, a bulletin, and a gun.
I would instead look to the Gulf War. Iraqi troops forced to fight a far superior army with seemingly endless resources and allies. Their morale was crushed after our first M1's, Cobras, and A10's tore up their dilapidated T55's - and all in the cover of dark.. The same would happen with the North Koreans, who coincidentally are also using. Short of the Chinese fighting side by side with the North Koreans, along with upgraded weapons and armor, we'd likely see a Gulf War repeat of mass surrender and refuge sought to the south.Experiencing an aquatic renaissance!

We should be more concerned about central and south America.
Like the Europeans worry about themselves and Africa.
Let China and Russia play tag them to the far east.I ate my fish that died.

Well.....actually, we should be concerned mostly with what is going on here within our nation......if we don't regain control of our government, they could end up waltzing us right into fema camps in the near future....

Did the DoD think the same of Iraq during the first Gulf War? We weren't prepared for the thousands that just laid down their weapons and peacefully surrendered.
I admit that the fight could go either way, but short of direct Chinese backing, North Korea would be pummeled if they attempted to invade.Experiencing an aquatic renaissance!

I can't answer to what the DOD beliefs were in regard to Iraq. However they have had some 50+ years to anylize and study North Korea. While they been wrong before I would think given that much time to gather intelligence, anylize and prepare contingency plans they should have a reasonably accurate assesment of the threat posed120g - Tropheus Moorii Kambwimba
