What is the overall purpose of this forum? To discuss/debate current issues or to start another anti-government party?


Since this forum creation I personally know of several people that left the box based on some of the topics and post on here. Is this what we need? I know it's a enter at your own risk! But is having a forum like this going to get anything solve in a reasonable and effective way?

Perhaps it needs to be changed that you have to request permission to even see this sub-forum?

Actually that was one of the options on the table when I was thinking of putting this forum in place. Here are the reasons I decided to offer an 'opt out' instead....

1. Too much work for me.
2. I believe in personal responsibility.
3. Realistically, the same people who get mad and leave are the ones who would ask to Opt In. They would still get mad and leave. You can't accidentally find yourself in this forum. You have to actively click the link and accept the rules.

So far, no one has forcibly been Opted Out, but that is something that can happen.

I only know of one person who left b/c of this sub forum and a couple who have gotten mad but come back.

The reality is that the people who have gotten mad and the one person who left do so because they can't debate the facts. When faced with reality their position fails the light of day test. Then they resort to trying to shut people down with political correctness crap like calling racism, homophobia, intolerance and such and this is not reasonable either. The fact is, most of these people do not have a clue as to what they are talking about, their positions are based on "FEELINGS" and that will lose a debate every single time which is why they resort to cowardly tactics like I mentioned above.

It's sad really. I feel sorry for those people. Life has to be difficult living in a fantasy land.

To allow people to discuss/debate issues. What you take from it is on you. Some issues we will agree on, some we won't, but I bet everyone will see multiple points of view.

I know of 1. Please PM me the others that you know of who have left because of this forum so I can remove their account from this forum (in case they decide to return at some point). At the end of the day, it's their choice to decide that the topics and posts in this single forum are more important than the friendships and information in all the other forums. Unfortunate, yes, but it's the reality of the situation.

We aren't trying to 'solve' anything. It's a place to talk about what's going on in the world.

There is a difference between a debate and an argument. This was started as a place for debate the people who get mad and start hurling insults are in it for an argument and they should not be allowed on here. Like Traci said they opted for this and they can opt out if they dont like the discussions. I have not seen a thread that has gotten out of hand and resorted to insults.

Personally I think this section has actually helped create more buzz and activity on this site that was slowing down before it. It also makes this website unique in that not only do we have our main mission of discussion and information on fish but we have a place for people that WANT TO debate the issues and talk with other intelligent people and bounce political ideas off each other that most of us wouldnt be able to get anywhere else. Normally people like to debate issues with people they know and this allows for a website full of people to get together and discuss.

There is a difference between a debate and an argument.

This is key. We're not always all going to agree, but debate is healthy.

It was started as a place to debate! But when someone goes against the flow of the majority things seem to get loosely! But like I said in another post! I ride solo.

Facts are a must and will go toe to toe on stuff I have knowledge about. Outside this forum we still people who look at fish in a box full of water!

If you list a source, that's what I consider the facts. I try to list sources anytime I mention anything already not widely known/accepted.
