"Campus Christian Group Lose Appeal"

Here's one that caught my attention. How does everyone else feel about the Supreme Courts Ruling? I'm actually kind of torn on this one. What kind of precedent does this set? Does this mean that Delock could sue to join the KKK now? That would be awesome, I would so donate to his legal fund.

Hmm, the group sued the school because the school won't officially recognize them as an organization?

Any student may attend the group's meetings, but voting members and officers must affirm a "statement of faith," that includes the belief "Christians should not engage in sexual conduct outside of marriage between a man and a woman," according to the society's website.

The school says that leads to discrimination which, under law, it cannot sanction.

Groups given official endorsement by the University of California can receive school funding, office space and the freedom to recruit on campus, but may not reject anyone because of sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or other criteria protected under federal and state law.

I think I agree with the Court's ruling on this one. This organization wants official recognition from a school which, by law, states that it cannot officially recognize groups that reject aspiring members on the basis of sexual orientation and religion. Since the organization does exactly that, I'm not sure what they were planning on accomplishing. Did the organization want the school to change their policies on sanctioning organizations? Or did they want to be recognized despite the school's rules? It's a public university - I say go to a private university if you want your religious organization to be sanctioned.

One question where does it stop? Couldnt you argue this towards ethnic groups or frats?

I would think this argument could be made about almost any student group at this school.

This isn't about ending "Discrimination" or fostering "Diversity" or any other BS vague liberal feel good ideology. This is about Hatred and intolerance of Christian ideals and beliefs and taking every opportunity to tear them down.

Totally wasn't expecting THAT, lol. Yeah, now I have no idea what's going on. But they DO have at least one Christian organization listed (haven't read the whole list - I stopped at OUTlaw because that did it for me.) How could a university say it doesn't sanction organizations that discriminate based on religious and sexual orientation, yet allow these organizations listed to be "official?" Hmm...

The Supreme Court was a split decision. This is why it is so important to NOT have activist judges appointed. They don't rule on law, they legislate from the bench and usually with great biased.

I made a post earlier. Not sure what happen but anyway. I feel the school is wrong for disallowing the group official on campus. Even though most group have open membership ie black, china, and latino. They only requirement is that you support the respected community. If condoning sex before marriage is wrong. Then why do I need to be gay,lesbian, bisexual or transgender to join OUTlaw?

Actually, most GLBT groups that I belonged to in the past, welcome straight, GLBT-friendly people.
