I think it has been mentioned and tabled a few times since 9/11. I too agree, with the exception of a time of invasion, our military should be always be all volunteer.

But this would be much more comprehesive....this bill states EVERYONE, no draft numbers to pull from....the entire (qualified) population would be mandated to serve in some capacity. True, it could be a good thing, but I really don't have a ounce of faith in our government when it comes to improving our way of life in general. They only seem concerned with feeding the many different branch's of government and not much else.

I think you are on to something. Why not offer military service to all of age illegal immigrants as a guaranteed fast track to citizenship. not only would they be registering themselves and paying taxes, they would be paying a service back to the country they took advantage of. I think Darbex just fixed the illegal immigration problem.

Back when we had bases in the Philippines a term of service was exchanged for fast-track citizenship for Philipinos.

Might want to check into it. I'm not sure if its open to illegals per se, but I know foreign nationals can join the military and earn a fast tracked path to citizenship with honorable service. I had a guy from South America doing it in my cycle at Knox in 97. PINTOGUZMAN! LOL... The Drills had a field day with his name.

I recently wrote a thread about having foreign troops invited to training exercises here in the states, and the idea strikes me, that having illegals or foreign nationals in our military to obtain a "fastrack" to citizenship, might have similar effects ....imagine what might happen should you have hundreds, perhaps thousands of PintoGuzmans in service, you would have to wonder where loyalities would lie should they be assigned to duties involving crowd control with live ammunitions.....especially around the boarders?

"SEC. 102. NATIONAL SERVICE OBLIGATION.

(a) Obligation for Service- It is the obligation of every citizen of the United States, and every other person residing in the United States, who is between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform a period of national service as prescribed in this title unless exempted under the provisions of this title."


I interpret SEC. 102 (a) to mean every person in the U.S. including U.S possessions and territories. That would include incarcerated individuals and illegal aliens.

I was just wondering, how does this differ from the Selective Service that all young males have to register for anyway? (Aside from encompassing females as well as males, obviously.)

In a draft situation, only a percentage of the eligible population would be called to service in the US Armed forces.....this bill, if passed would basically dictate that ALL US citizens between 18 and 42 would have to serve in some capacity for 2 years, either in the US Armed forces or another government approved form of service.

This bill would essentially make slaves out of the US population for a period of two years....who knows...they could extend your tour too....wouldn't put it past them.
