  • U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta

    He is the first living Medal of Honor recipient since the Vietnam war. It makes me mad when they call him the MOH "winner", like its some prize in a contest. He was awarded this for distinguishing himself "conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States."

    He's a true American hero, even though he'd never let you call him one, much less admit it to himself. He says in the linked interview below that he was simply in the right position to do what any other soldier would have done. He signed up to serve after 9-11 and never looked back. He's a hard-charger, part of one of the more elite ground combat units (173rd Airborne), and a very modest soldier.
