    What caused thousands of birds to fall from the sky?

    What are some of your thoughts...???

    I'm still sifting through my thought process on this.

    This is odd because it's apparently very specific. Red-winged blackbirds in both mass kills with the birds and apparently, drum fish accounted for 95% of the fish kill in Arkansas.

    The fish, I'm thinking, could still be the result of chemicals or pollution. If a compound or natural event affects the environment (for example, lowers oxygen content), and one species is more susceptible to that particular change in the environment, then that can result in this species bias. That'll be interesting to see the results of that. The other thing it could be is some sort of pathogen, but that must be particularly virulent to wipe out that many in a such a short time. I think the fish kill is independent of the bird incidents.

    The birds. . . well, apparently the Louisiana blackbirds were found near telephone lines. I've heard a lecture by a researcher who examined the effects of telephone towers on bird populations, and the wires can be difficult to spot, particularly at night. When they're packed tight and spooked, it's possible they were hitting power lines and each other, causing the hemorraging and other injuries they are seeing (head, beak, neck, breast. . . basically, hitting somewhile flying forward). The Arkansas incident was strange. Again, if it's chemical, I'm not sure you see such a species bias, and apparently, dogs and cats were eating them without getting sick. Some people said they were flying low, so it's possible they got spooked and were hitting things, as well. The birds have also apparently been otherwise healthy. You'd think they'd be used to flying in situations like that, but I just don't know.

    There are some plausible scenarios, and some I just really don't think are likely. I'm not particularly worried about it, at this point. If it happens again, I'll be more concerned. If it is coincidental, it is an incredible coincidence. The bird die-offs have happened before, just apparently not so close together.

      Well, I'm certaintly not buying the "scared to death" theory that some so called experts are saying is one possibility for these mysterious deaths.....

          A few years ago my mom and I were driving around Apalachicola, FL, and noticed a ton of dead birds concentrated in one area.

          This should definitely be investigated and added to the casualties of the 'aflockalypse.'

            Well...i did some research, and this kind of event is not new......but what is new....is this time around.....it includes both birds and fish and in a small time frame....this is very odd.....

            Seriously....my gut tells me it's due to some sort of change in the earths natural magnetic field or something along those lines.....

                HAARP is certainly suspect in my mind :)

                    It's tempting, but I am not going to go there on this one.....I'm guessing it's due to some change in our earths natural magetic fields or some other solar explanation......
