  • God Bless the USA...Not in Mass!!!

An elementary school in Massachusetts recently cancelled the
plans for students to sing songs at a school presentation after parents objected to a change in the lyrics of a popular patriotic song

Political correctness and fear of offending someone caused the faculty to change the lyrics of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" to "We Love the USA"

People did take offense but to the schools surprise it was the parents who were offended by the change in the lyrics. So rather than risk offending some one else by subjecting to the mention of God in song the school dropped the singing portion of the assembly due to "logistics".

Keep in mind this is the same state where schools did not recognize Valentine's day or Saint Patrick's day because they memorialized saints, which of course could offend some one.

Was it a public school? If you include Christian God, and holidays you've got to include everyone else's religion from Krishna to the Flying spaghetti monster.

It's all or nothing. Nothing is easier than all.

Funny how the gubernment can make the majority not do something because it hurts the feelings of a few and not go with what the majority wants...

Allow me to apologize in advance but the view stated above is rather simplistic and quite ignorant. Regardless of belief or lack thereof the country (this country) was founded upon Christian ideals. We have religious freedom provided by the constitution in this nation which allows one and all to practice their faith. There is nothing in that document stating that said beliefs can be only practiced if it does not offend anyone.

If you live in a nation where the most commonly practiced faith is Christianity then you must accept this as the common belief and allow those who believe to practice their faith. We are all exposed to thoughts and beliefs that we do not agree with or support on a daily basis.

I do not get upset or take issue if someone wishes me a Happy Hanukkah, Ramadan, or Kwanzaa. I appreciate that that is their belief and wish them the same.

When I deployed to Kosovo while in the service I realized that I was living in a Muslim nation. While I do not agree with much of the Muslim teachings I tolerated it because that was what was practiced by the population. Did I have any right to ask the residents to not practice their faith because it offended me as a Christian? Of course not! Only in this country are people ridiculous enough to believe that the majority should alter their lives to placate the minority.

There should be enough respect and tolerance for your fellow man and his belief system whatever they may be that all should be allowed to display their faith in this nation.

Of course we all know that that is not case. Here the minority (opinion, faith, belief, lifestyle, culture, etc) is protected at the expense of the established faiths, morals, and existing foundations of the country.
