Instead of this, what about a points system like other forums have, and instead of positive and negative, ONLY positive points. Similar to the thanks button but a little more specific and it would keep a running total next to the person's name.
I say only positive that way if you disagree with something someone writes you just don't do anything and there is no harm. However, if you do agree with something someone says then you give them a point.
I wish we had this sometimes rather than clicking the thanks button, mostly because "thanks" isn't exactly how I feel but that I do agree with a person - and also because when you use this system only the person you give the point to can see it in their User CP, so its somewhat anonymous.Experiencing an aquatic renaissance!

i vote no as well,
private transactions are just that "private", as adults it should be handled in such a way that the two individuals come to a happy agreement, i think the key word i'm looking for is "perception", one persons perception of an indivduals actions may very well be interpreted totally different by another individual there by allowing for bad things to happen if one puts their opinion/perception out on the forum to be battered with others perceptions, by putting "opinions"/"ratings" on the site it would most likely lead to bad feelings and nasty discussions about individuals...Traci has set up a nice forum to allow for selling, discussing, and overall socializing for the fish hobby that we all share.....i vote for it to stay with just a "thanks" button....

I think its a good idea but if everyone doesnt want it fine. A transaction can be kept private but if someone was good and went out of there way to be kind then I would like everyone to know that. And on the same note if someone was being a **** and screwed someone then I think it is fair to warn anyone else. This system seems to work for all of the other sites so why wouldnt it work here? All the other sites require you to work with the seller/buyer to clear the issue before giving negative feedback and we should promote the same.

I agree, and also vote 'no.' I think the feedback system works well on other sites because it's more of a feedback system for how well the seller ships the item, if it was shipped in a timely manner, how good their communication with the buyer was, and how the fish/plants/whatever arrived (i.e. alive, in good condition, etc.) On a local forum those issues become moot. Shipping's not usually involved, the condition of the fish/plants is able to be ascertained by the buyer when the items are bought, etc.
Like Peter (and others) said, I think HFB's good like it is."Millennium hand and shrimp!"
