What is a good heater to use?

I'm going out to look for a test, I ordered a 150 watt heater but I might exchange for a 100w. Would a 150 watt be okay or will it over heat my tank?

What heater did you order? 150w or 100w should be fine. No heater will overheat any tank. You set the temp and that's as high as it goes. If the heater detects it's at that temp it'll shut off. If it gets any hotter than the set temp, it's because of your lights or other equipment.

Overheat? It turns off when it hits the temp its set to. You don't need a 150w but its not going to overheat your tank.

Okay, thanks for the input. I got a 150w accu therm. I might exchange it for the Neo therm.

Thats incorrect. A heater can over heat a tank. Under normal circumstances it shouldnt when the temp gets below the set temp it will turn on if it goes above it will turn off. However, if that "controller" malfunctions then it could fail to turn off or fail to turn on.

For this reason that is why people suggest splitting your watts to 2 heaters if possible so if one malfunctions it wont generate enough heat to severly over heat a tank. 150W will cook everything if it overheats. I would go no more than 100W and that still can cook the tank.

Well yeah. Assuming it doesn't leak out voltage or the controller messes up, it won't overheat the tank. If he's buying a new one, it shouldn't really be a problem unless he's got a defect.

Assuming the heater works right in the first place. I bought a Jebo from City Pets a couple months and brand new out of the box was messed up. Heater would never shut off no matter what you turned the setting to. Granted it was a cheap heater to begin with.

Yup. Two 50w or just one 75w would be the best route to go for such a small tank. Any more and you can risk killing off your livestock if a heater manages to fail.

Well, I submitted to cancel my order on cobalt aquatics but they won't respond to me. If not I will use the 150, its in my room, so I always have a watch on it. Unless I'm at school.

A lot of the LFS sell them. You can always order them online. Try the market here? Someone might have a spare one laying around that they're not using.
