So, I work at the Pasadena Petco and Wednesday the power went out at 7:30pm. The Transformer outside our store was vaporized by a lightning strike. Well, we put battery powered air stones in all the tanks, including the tanks with the tangs.
The power was not restored until 2-3am.
The next morning, one of the managers [from another store] told our Aquatics Specialist that we shouldn't of put the air stones in with the tangs because it irritates their slime coat. So I did some research and couldn't find anything to back up that claim, and our tangs did just fine.
The Guest Manager clarified with me and said she meant Micro-bubbles, not air stones. Yet, I still cannot find anything to back up the claim that a Tang will flash itself to death on rocks to try and relieve the "irritation" caused by micro-bubbles.
Is the guest manager right? If so can anyone provide any links to some reading about the topic?
Because the only information I have on this is the anecdotal word of the guest manager, and I'm not big on anecdotal evidence. In fact, I usually disregard anecdotal evidence.
Have you guys ever had tangs bash themselves to death because of bubbles?
My counter argument against not putting air pumps on the tang tanks was that the needs of the many [the other livestock within the tank with the tangs] outweigh the needs of the few [the tangs] during the power outage.
