What do i have starting up here?

As best as I can tell, it looks like either some kind of sponge or maybe an egg cluster. But I lean towards sponge. I can say that of all the bad things I know about, it doesn't look to be anything to really worry about. There is so much that finds it way into an aquarium there is no telling what you have. You might try posting the picture on MARSH, as there are all kinds of "experts" on that site. But don't expect any difinitive answers.

Has it always been that size?

Likes like some kind of bleached coral maybe.....

If it's hard, I'm 99% sure its a dead coral, which comes on live rock pretty often. If it's soft, it's probably a sponge.

Can't quite tell... but it sure does look like bleached coral skeleton to me.

How big is it? are we talking inches or under 1 inch?

Either way I dont think it's much to worry about.
