I did the same thing while scaping my tank! Really adds dept to the tank and most SW folks don't do it.

Get the biggest sump you can afford. The bigger the better. Maybe you can fit something like a 10g in there.

Technically, for sw there are better options for around the same price range. Pico Aquariums makes some nice aios. As for lighting, it depends on what you plan on having in your tank. 70w MH should be more than enough, the problem you have is water evaporation, so you might what to have an ATO.

I use this under my tank.

oh yea.... if you do go planted

i have riccia, drawf hairgrass, and a bunch of other plants. Some seiryuu stones and other junk.

if you go SW i have 2-3 softball size live rock, and 1/3 a bag of sand.

I used the same thing as a mat.

            im REALLY thinking sw!
thai, are you getting that yellow mantis at cp?
            those are wicked!
im probably going to hit you up on that sand and live rock man.
as for lighting, ive been reading on the evap from mh's, and i dont know if i want to deal with all that.
as for the sump, i can build whatever size stand i need, i was thinking a 10g would be better, but i will have to build my own stand, if decide to keep it a fowler setup, what kind of filtration could i get away with?

im really really liking mantis shrimp, i love the videos people posted ont hem, they are very interactive little critters, and i love animals like that.
if i do go folwer, it will either be a mantis shrimp, or a pair of percula clowns and a single large rbta.

            would a 65watt cf sustain a rbta?
for that matter, would a 65watt cf sustain corals?

space might be too tight for 2 clowns for that small of a space. The tank is alot smaller than you think lol

Do it Brian. It's not hard at all!

thai, are you getting that yellow mantis at cp?

Either that yellow one or a green one at FG. FG can also order for me but they can't get the red ones. I didn't ask CP if they can order for me, but I'm sure if it's on a list they will try for me.

                I don't have much left.

as for lighting, ive been reading on the evap from mh's, and i dont know if i want to deal with all that.

There is evap but also looking to an auto top off system. basically just hook it up and leave it alone. You can always remove when taking pictures. Even without the ATO, I have seen a number of nanos with the 70W MH and daily top off with no problems.

Any really. Just a powerhead and weekly/bi-weekly water changes alone can sustain a nano system.

Yeah, I basically just want to keep one so I can feed things to it.

65w CF can sustain corals for sure. GSP, zoas, and shrooms will have no problems.....basically all the corals you see in my tank. But you will need more for a RBTA to be happy. t5 is a viable option.

                      im totally doing it!:)

are corals easy to take care of?
like do you have to dose anything for them?

if do go with corals i will likely just bite the bullet and get a 70watt mh and ato and run a fan on the same timer as the light like mike.

Depends on the coral really. Some corals will need you to dose some will not.

Zoas basically need nothing except normal water changes. Actually some like it a little "dirty."

just got back from my trip to vegas, and now have a nice layer of green algae looking crud on everywhere light was shooting down. Time for a clean up crew, any suggestions?

i have a few small brittles and i never see them, just one arm sticking out from the rocks from time to time. Theres some other starfish that you will see more often. keep in mind that the bigger the starfish the more frags they can knock over if the frags are not glued down.
