I think I need a RODI unit next.

Can't be changing this much water. I need to do more.

I'm doing 20% a week and I still have nitrate around 5-10.

Feeding the gorg reef chili once a night and I feeding my three headed dendro coral and three headed duncan so six PE mysis per night.

Hopefully the skimmer starts working better. Foam production is a lot better but skimmate still tea color.

how often do you clean out your filter sock? I would probably get like a bunch and change it out every 2 days. Or else that could be adding to your trate prob.

I'm actually in the process of removing the sock all together.

I designed this upside down dorsal pipe to install so the water is quitter with no sock on.

i built this......


worked awesome, but it takes up alot of space. The whole idea is to slow down the velocity of the water. I was just like the picture, 1" T fittings, and elbows

I then made a simplied version, 1 inch to 1.25, one elbow and then one T fitting. Aquarium was silent except for vortechs.

I have 11 more corals coming in and a clam.

My plan is to mount a bunch more plugs onto the LR and give it a few months to grow in and cover all the live rock.

Let me know what you guys think about what I can do to the scape to make it better.

needs moar fish and expensive color sticks. You could mount the coral on little bits of dry rock. Thats what i've been doing lately. A lot easier to mount to my live rock than the plugs, unless i dremel the bottom off the plugs.

No stick collection yet. I want some NPS (gorgs and LPS), LPS, and zoas right now. The NPS corals keep my tank way to dirty for SPS. If the gorg fails me I will get SPS and keep my tank cleaner. I'll most likely do the upper left half with all SPS.....but that's down the road.

yeah, that's what I do. I either have frags already on rocks or I just dremel the bottom of the plug off. In a month or two it looks all the same. Zoas grow fast for me.

Yeah, Acans can stand somewhat strong light, but they prefer less. Some people are even staying 50 PAR will bring out the best colors. My plan next is to move all the acans to the right side and remove those rocks current there.

The left side will be my clam, I might get another one soon. A different color morph.

And the under the ledge I'm go with dendros and suncorals upside down and on the sides under the ledge where there is no light.

Hope I figure out this nitrate issue I have. I would prefer it to be around 5.

i say just get a nice birdnest like a bird of paradise or ora green birdness. They are pretty easy to take care of and don't require keeping your water that clean. Its also a good tale tell coral. If something is going on with your tank, sps usually retract first. So you can catch something before it crashes your tank. Plus they are a good money maker lol. They grow fast and people always buy birdnest as their first sps.

You should try that biomedia. More surface area for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria to inhabit. That or run a high quality carbon like rox.8 and change every 2-3 days. Remove the DOC before it has a change to break down and cause nitrates.

Let me check my water after the pipe mod.

I was only cleaning my filter sock once a week and some times once every two weeks.

Also, the skimmer is producing way better head today. Skimmate getting darker.

my skimmer has been going crazy the past few weeks. Uber skimmate..... ultra stinky stuff too. Someone told me i had to clean the skimmer cup every day or other day. Thats a lot of work lol

yea i upgraded... its the super reef octopus XP1000sss. its coming monday. Imma take out my sump and redo my return line with all PVC pipes instead of hose. Stupid hose is getting on my nerves.

Imma keep my nac7 for my frag tank. I woulda kept it but its too big in that small sump. Such a pain to take out to clean. I was gonna try to sell it but everyone low balls too much.
