Sump for 55 gallon set up

Is there a such thing as an overkill when it comes to a sump? I have a 55 gallon tank and thinking of putting a 40 gallon sump on it? Is that too much or will that be fine?

No such thing as overkill with a sump. To small can be more of a problem.
