Is this an established or new tank setup?
Lately I always seem to get dinoflagellates in my new setups, although mine are usually ostreopsis. I have come to the conclusion that the lack of biodiversity leads to them being able to get an upper hand.
My current regimen for beating them back is to raise nitrate/phosphate levels and dose probidio biodigest. Along with this I dose phytoplankton, add copepods to the tank and if I can find someone with some hair algae I add that as well. No water changes.
It usually takes about a month maybe two for mine to subside. I have also done the same protocol on an established tank with similar results. I don't think you ever get rid of them. I think its more biodiversity out competing them.
Hope this helps.Last edited by steveb; 11-26-2018, 10:01 AM.
