Check the box, what type of LED bulb is it?

Not all LED bulbs are the same.

One cree LED bulb cost 6-7 bucks.

On first impression, I don't think these are the same bulbs used in the latest LED fixtures...but than again I have not seen this particular light in person.

a timer will work on these.

im going to get one for the ada tank im going to be looking for.
yeah you can put it on a timer but the light will stay on for 3 hours till the battery drains unless you turn the switch of manually ie:PAIN IN THE BUT

and letting the battery drain completely all the time like that is not good

you have to take apart the unit and rewire the unit externally to a timer which is not easy because you would have to know the volts the switch has going threw it or have some kind of manual timer

I too work at home depot and have been playing with the unit and I want them to run of timers because my canopy is way to high for me to be reaching in it to turn them on and off

when i figure it out i will let you know!

guys, I DON'T think these are the RIGHT LEDs....moot point if it's not.

The right LEDs put out mad heat too. The bulb don't but the base on the cree LEDs do and that's why people use big heat sinks.

Again, read the box to see what type of LED it is....I have a feeling it's like the sames one they use as lunar lights on common CF or t5 fixtures but not blue and 6k instead.

no dude, total different deal. What makes a high power LED different from the cheaper more common ones you see is the PAR value and not just how bright it is.

Producing light, lumens in this case, is not what LEDs are all about. The real clincher is the ability to produce more PAR (Photosynthetic Active Radiation) per watt than most any other form of light. For those that don't know, PAR is a measurement of the amount of light that falls onto an area, that falls on a response curve for photosynthesis (400-700nm, ignoring UV and IR light). Basically what this means is that more PAR equals more growth out of photosynthetic corals. Because of this, LEDs do not have to produce as many lumens as other forms of light to reach the same growth potential. This also means less power is required too.

                  Totally different ball game man.

IMO this light is pointless its 180w and you could probably get a 150w HQI that looks/works better. the only reason for me to go LED is to save $$$ on electricity without compromising quantity of light.
