Nope. I'm sure it will affect the lighting and cause lines

It doesn't affect my lighting much and didn't cause lines. The thing we call eggcrate and use for our aquariums is actually called light diffusers. I'm sure you know what that is and what it does.

I would think the screen lid would BLOCK OUT the light since some people put screens on the whole window at home to block out the heat and direct sunlight. I would go with the Eggcrate or glass top

Nah, Im thinking a screen with 1/8 or 1/4" mesh. Screen material is alot thinner. I have an eggcrate used for substrate and it immediately makes my tank darker.

                +1

The screen is made of metal and would act as a reflector and cause the light to bounce off and a lot of it won't make it to the tank.

Ah. A mesh screen lid. It will still block out some light... at least more than eggcrate would, and the eggcrate is easier to deal with since all you gotta do is cut to size.

Well maybe the eggcrate Im used to seeing is the thick hard plastic. Do you have a link of what you're referring to?

Yeah that's what I have and don't like it. Glass top is better than that IMO

IMO eggcrate is better than glass tops. If you don't like eggcrate, you're definitely not going to like the mesh screen. The mesh is similar to the eggcrate but finer spacing. If you're going to try it out, let us know how it turns out!
