Who did the led upgrade and why was it done

Aqua Illuminations did it. It was done because they improved their LED's after this model was sold. You can call them for more technical details. Sol's are made to be upgradable as aqua illuminations upgrades their capabilities.

They are Sols (not Vega's). There has only been one upgrade. They have the same LED's that are in the brand new Sol's. the Vega disnt replace the Sol's. it's a different light.

It's cheaper to get good lights and succeed than get cheap lights and kill hundreds of dollars worth of livestock! :)

What are the dimensions and would they provide good coverage on a 6x2x2 tank? Can these lights be placed directly on glass tops?

Not interested in trades but thanks. As far as dimensions that is available at the link below (click on "tech specs"): http://www.aquaillumination.com/sol/

as far as sittin them on glass I don't think it would be a problem but look around the site above and they might address it. I'd but them on glass no problem if that was what I wanted to do. They generate an insignificant amount of heat. I can't advise if they'll be good for a 6x2x2 tank but I think they compare very closely to a 250 watt metal halide (each) so it would be similar to putting two 250's in that tank.
