Last time I checked there, and it was a while back, HD was pretty proud of an empty bucket. Trying to go more of the used surplus route. May end up buying retail in the end but looking for other options. Thanks

Ahhh... then go to a grocery store/restaurant that you frequent and ask if they can save you some. If they agree, tip them when you pick the buckets up. Frosting usually comes in 5g buckets if you ask the bakery...

Firehouse subs also has a firefighter foundation thing and they sell the 5 gallon pickle buckets for I believe 2$

Knowing you helped the firefighters out is a plus also!!!

Last time I asked Shipley's for a bucket (years & years ago) they wanted $5. I got them for free as a kid but somewhere along the way they started selling them. Maybe that's not the case anymore. I think HD sells them for like $2.88. Not sure about Lowes prices.

                        Crazy42bmx,

I want to replace some of the buckets I have been using for years plus my mom wanted a few to put tomato plants in so being the good son, I didn't ask why not just use a planter . I also set up aquariums for my nieces and my god daughter. I'm going to give their parents buckets so they don't have an excuse to try and make me come clean them. LOL.

As for the free buckets, Shipley's figured out there was some $$$ to be made on those buckets. At least the one by my house did.

                        Thanks for all the ideas!
