if you're willing to use sand blaster sand, you can get 50lb for $13 at MPI (if you've in the houston area).

TSC sells it for $8 a 50lb bag. Comes in extra fine (30-60) and fine (20-40) grit sizes.

look at pool filter sand... very cheap! I used it in all my Eartheater tanks though it is not a bright white if that is what you are looking for.

Is pool filter hard to clean at first? I think a bright white or black would be nice. I'm also looking for Holey rock and driftwood.

No more than any other sand(much cleaner than say play sand you get at a home improvement store) and it's heavier than say Tahitian Moon sand you can get at a pet store so when you are using a siphon hose for water changes the sand does NOT suck up through the hose like the finer sand I mentioned. Pool filter sand is a very light tan color.

Just go buy a 50lbs bag for $7-9 and if you don't like it then dump it in a low spot in your yard.

Caution with the finer sand... if it's too deep or you have large rocks or decor on top of the sand; gas pockets will form underneath deep sand and decor, if enough builds up without regular maintenance, then it can be harmful to your livestock.
