I’m starting up a new tank for the first time in some time. I’m looking for cheap substrate for a planted 40 gallon breeder tank.
The only critical requirement is that it not raise the ph. (A little buffering capacity is fine.) I’d like it to be a fine grain, ideally sand, and the darker color, the better. I can add ferts, so it doesn’t necessarily have to be something fancy.
I need about 1300 cubic inches minimum (enough for 2” depth on a 18” x 36” bottom). If anyone has fine gravel, pool filter sand, turface, used aqua soil, etc. lying around that they wouldn’t mind letting go for cheap, please shoot me a pm.
