I'm always leary of using garden hoses for water changing.  Don't the newer ones have some sort of anti mold/mildew chemical in them?  If you're looking for Python parts and extensions and want to buy new you can check bigalsonline, they're much less expensive than the local retail prices.  I have heard Walmart has some Python items.

I use one and can't imagine being without one.  I just syphon outside to the flower bed and use the faucet attachment to refill.  I've never tried it but Ellen has said that once you start the syphon with the faucet attachment you can turn the water off and it will continue to syphon.  It not only saves your back but time as well with the added plus of not sloshing water all over your floors.  I somehow still manage to get water in places not intended but that's not the fault of the pytohn   .

I need to take a "posting for dummies" course.  I somehow screwed up.  Someone was advertising their tank with a bunch of accessories.  Someone told this person that they could not get what they were asking for it all, but that they should break it down and sell individual items.  This person had a 50' Python.   I somehow managed to make a new topic out of it.     Please forgive me for that.  I am glad in a way that I did because I'm getting some good information about them.  I have a "new to me" gorgeous 110 gallon tank.  I've not done a partial water change on it yet. I'm getting help from Shannon at Aqua Zoo to help me get the water into shape.  I think it has been about four days or so now since it got filled up.  We apparently have ammonia in our tap water!  Shannon suggested we put ghost shrimp in it and she told us where to go get them.  I think we got $2.00 worth which was about 40 of the little cuties.  She said that would help cycle the tank.  Well, there happened to be a little fish of some kind that was in the bag with the shrimp.  It has survived.  Yippie!  Also, there ended up being a little catfish hiding in the filter water that managed to survive the ordeal of having the tank drained by the guy we got it from and then the cleaning and setting up, new water, etc.  I was shocked to see it in the tank after it was set up.  It has survived too.  We are going to take a water sample to Shannon today to see how we are doing and to see if we are ready to buy a few fist to test out the waters.   :wink:  Wish me luck!  Oh, I'm 5'6" tall and the tank on the stand is almost as tall as I am!  It would be really hard for me to work with buckets.  

Anyone else have anything to say about the Python?  positive/negative?  Thanks for the replys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have the 50' python and its great!

you can start the siphon with the faucet and then let it flow on its own, how i use to do it all the time, but the siphon force isnt as strong. i have multiple tanks like most here and its cut back time flushing water.

Congrats on the new tank!  Sounds like you're in good hands as far as the set up goes.  Some of those little catfish are really tough little guys.

I can relate to your tank size issue.  I'm 5'4" and my 105 tall is quite the challange to maintain.  If you do go with the Python, which I highly recommend, they also make longer tubes for taller tanks and ponds that may make your maintainence easier.  I have a 24" gravel tube that  makes reaching the bottom for cleaning much easer.  The one that came with the original is about 12".  Actually, I have two 24" gravel tubes, one came with a tank I got.  Even standing on the top of a two step ladder, I still can't reach the bottom of the tank with my hand unless I put on scuba gear. To the top of the tank, without the canopy is about 5', with the canopy it's over my head  8O .

Scuba gear!  I had joked (in my own mind) about needing some scuba gear to clean the tank, but I'm so big that I'm sure ALL the water would end up on my living room floor if I dared to climb into it.   :wink:

You're funny Raul.  Your son could have fit in the tank.  Maybe you should have had him go inside and clean it.  hahaha  You did a great job though and I'm really happy with what you did to clean it up and set it up for me.  Now if I can just win the lotto and let ya clean it for me regularly.  I'm fretting about how I'm going to do it.  The Python is looking better and better to me.  Nice to hear from you!!!!!!!!!

Hey Coop...... isn't this the same one on craigslist for $700?  http://houston.craigslist.org/for/216817357.html  Looks like it word for word.   I went in there and did a search for Texas Holey Rock and found your ad in there.  

I'm still looking for holey rock.  I have found a few pet stores that have it for $1.50 a pound, but they have kind of crappy pieces of it.  Aqua Zoo did have some nice pieces, but for $2.29 per pound......  If anyone knows of a soure of nice holey rock for closer to the $1.50 range, please let me know.  I'm 30 miles SE of Houston, but don't mind traveling a little for a good deal even though I do hate the Houston traffic.  

I did find a 50' Python at Aquarium World today for $59.99 plus tax.  I was too impatient to wait to order one because according to Shannon at Aqua Zoo, I'm supposed to allow the ammonia to spike for the cycling of the tank.  I'm so new to this stuff that I'm a bit confused.  We didn't realize this and we had treated the water for the ammonia.  Shannon told us today to do a partial water change to help put ammonia back into the tank for now.  We do have ammonia in our tap water at .5.  Anyway, I'm so exhanusted from running around today that I'm doing the partial water change tomorrow to the 110 gallon tank.  I WANT FISH IN IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  lol

walmart has them for about  29 dollars  and home depot sells clear plastic tubing identical to the one on the python, when i mentioned the hose section, that is where you find the connectors

Yea, same one. Good luck with your tank. I have enjoyed mine since the beginning. I hate to get rid of it, but I have too. Learning is half the fun. Make sure your tank is completely ready/cycled before you throw fish and lose them. I am sure I am not the only one to be impatient or ever had a cycle problem. Enjoy. As for the python. I like it, but it uses a lot of water to get the suction good enough. Normally not a big deal, but I find it easier to use a regular suction and a 13 gal trash can. Enjoy.
