  • Looking for siamese algae eater

Im wondering if anyone has knowledge of where I can find a true siamese algae eater. I have some black beard algae in my tank (25 gal.) and supposedly these are the only fish that will eat it. Any information is helpfull. Thanks

I don't know about SAE's but o-cats do a pretty good job of it but its only noticeable when you get a big group of them.

Check out sunny's or fish ranch

I got mine from wal-mart.. seriously, he's one of the funniest fish I have, it's always so keyed up like it drinks red bull all the time.. it's hilarious to watch.

I thought walmart sold the Chinese Algae Eaters?

I have two and found out later on that they might be aggressive towards my other fish, but so far they just swim by them really fast chasing each other. I dont know if their playing, or mating, or fighting for dominance, but they havent hurt each other that i can tell.

The ones i bought from walmart look like this:

I remember when I had black beard algae. I called at least 15 stores before I found FISH RANCH II. They had a whole tank of them. However, that was long ago, but I do know that they know what a siamese algae eater is. Some stores won't know the difference. There is a great page out there on the internet that shows the differences between 3 similar fish. Anyone know where that is? In the meantime, give FISH RANCH a call

I have flying foxes - I think! They are so close to the Siamese Algae eaters that it is hard for me to tell. They actually look just like the photo above.

Maybe this page is the one you're thinking of?

http://www.petresources.net/fish/article/sae.html - or maybe this one. (I'm not on my home computer and I don't see the edit button here - sorry for the double post!)

                    Now I don't know what I have! It's not a flying fox, for sure! I think it may be a false siamensis. Here's a link - http://www.aquaworldnet.com/awmag/siamusa.htm

I'll try to take a picture later. All I can say is that it isn't so hot at cleaning up!
