what are the tank requirements on the occies? ive been reading about them, but the answers vary from separate 10 gallon to community tanganika set ups to anything with sand. Would this group be ok in a 10 for now and a 20L later?

10 gallon maybe abit small for them at this point. a 20L will be just perfect

Occies are quite hardy fish as long as they have the shells for them to live in.
I like Andri would recommend them to go in a bigger tank than a 10g .. You can prolly get a pair to live in a 10g, but you might want to look at a 20g Long or 29g tank for them.. I have kept 5 in a 20g long and I have kept now 8 in a 110 (but they are not the only fish in that tank.) Take a look at my website with my 110 and you will see you can keep a bunch with a ton of different fish. They are great tanganyika community fish as long as you keep peaceful others with them.
