I am setting up a FX5 tomorrow, and as long as I got enough media, than the XP4 will be good to go with Media for sale at that price.380G For Sale $3000 Acrylic tank & stand

The XP4 was purchased in 2007 and I installed it mid summer. So I would say right at 2 years.380G For Sale $3000 Acrylic tank & stand

I have a Rena XP4 that I'm running on my 75g right now. Great filter. Only problem is that it is noisy for reasons I cannot figure out. It's not real bad, but it bugs me. It doesn't even bother my husband (Mr. "it must be QUIET") when he goes to sleep even though the tank is in our bedroom. It helps that the filter is inside a cabinet.
If you want to take it, I might be willing to part with it so I can get a new one. I've tried getting a new impeller for it, but no joy. I'm afraid it might be something on the motor head around the impeller, but I can't see anything physically wrong.
If you're interested, I could let it go for $125. What I would do is get a new one, swap out the motor, and let you have the new one with the noisy motor head. You'd get all new parts, new media, new hoses, etc. I'd get a quieter motor. I will need to get the replacement first though which would take about a week, I'd say.
The XP4 is about 1 - 1.5 years old. Never had a problem other than this noise. It's been running for well over 6 months with the noise so it doesn't appear to cause any actual problems.
If you'd like an unbiased opinion of the noise, someone from here was at my house just yesterday and heard it. I could ask that person if it's okay to let you know their ID so you can ask how noisy that person thought the filter was.
Let me know if you're interested.Vicki
