LF tiger oscar (lg preferably)

ok, heres the situation:

i had a gorgeous tiger oscar that my daughter and i were very attached to. in my attempt to consolidate tanks, i put a pair of convicts in the 140 gallon tank with all the south american fish. this, as i am coming to find out was a HUGE MISTAKE, because within 24 hours they had repeatedly attacked and stressed my oscar out, and i immediately quarantined him. despite my best efforts (melafix, airrators, salt, no lights, etc.) he developed popeye, and passed this morning. albeit that i'm deeply saddened by this, my concern is my daughter is looking for him. before i go purchase another one (convicts are relocating as soon as i get off work and will be rehomed as soon as i find a home for them) i didn't know if anyone had an oscar needing a new home. i need one that is not too aggressive, but can hold it's own. preferably a black and red tiger (thats what we had). if noone has one, i'll most likely be buying one in the morning, but i was raised to adopt before supporting petstores. i'm willing to pay a reasonable rehoming fee if someone needs the space. mine was 7" so something along those lines would be wonderful. thanks.

i did...and apparently i'm not being very successful at this cause i'm finding them for 60 bucks or in a tank set up. most are sold. still looking...

try callin some other lfs. I know for a fact someone HAS to have a big oscar for sale. prob for the same price that you'll pay for a baby at petsmart.

Oscars are excellent fish to keep and I would LOVE to get another one some day. they are very personable.

semper, can see a pic? corey got me a little one tonight, and i know he won't be little long, but i'm moreover worried about erin being so attached. she was watching the tank tonight, and i showed her the little guy, but she could have cared less. she was lookin for the big guy. what kind is he?

newb, dela hoya was my first oscar, and i broke down 2x at work and 2x at home over this. they really are like dogs, very personable. he will be missed. before dela hoya i didn't want oscars. he really changed my mind about them.

I had an oscar as a teenager that I adored. I had trained him to do a number of tricks. They are personable and very smart.

I'm so sorry to hear what happened and can empathize with your pain given this was your daughter's pet. If you can't find a reasonable replacement, how about taking your daughter to a LFS and letting her pick out her own replacement. Maybe she'll feel more attached to a new one if she's the one who selected it?

no, she saw some...but was completely uninterested. she did see one that was quite large that got her attention, but still it was white, and delahoya was black. i found someone in montgomery that is rehoming a 12 inch one for free and i'm picking it up thursday. i'm hoping because it looks so much like him this will fix things. erin is only 2 and a half, so i'm hoping to kinda pull one over on her in hopes she doesn't know a difference. shes smart tho... so we shall see.

She'll know it's a different fish, but it might have the qualities and characteristics she is looking for (such as large size).

I honestly wouldn't try to trick her on this. This can actually be a good thing for her to go through. She'll learn by watching you that mistakes happen to everyone. The thing to do is to take responsibility by being honest about it and doing your best to make up for it. That way, when she makes a mistake, she'll remember the example you set for her. Otherwise, she may learn the wrong lesson that fooling someone is the way to handle things. Even if she is fooled now, she will know the truth later. What she will carry with her is the example you set on how to handle mistakes in life.

Let us know how she accepts the new oscar. I'm hoping she'll love it!
