  • OSCARS

I will be rescuing a coule of Oscars from the clutches of a 10 gallon  8O  here in the next couple of days and will be putting them into a 29  :? , once they are in my possession I will be looking to put them out for adoption if you will, I'd like to get a pair of angels out of this if possible, or let them go for $10 a piece. One is an albino tiger, the other is the black striped one with orange spots (can't remember what they're called at the moment). They're close to 5" already I believe, Let me know if you're interested I will have pics next week.

The black oscar with orange spots is commonly called a tiger oscar if memory serves me correctly . . .
    Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

they're actually about 4", so far they're getting along fine, but have shown agression towards the danios and cory's that currently reside in the tank, also I lost all of my ghost shrimp overnight

they're eating well like a couple of piranhas, I've never seen a fish hit the surface that hard for dried krill, or flakes for that matter, my other fish have been put on diet by these two

              Re: OSCARS

Humm, edit button is gone again.  Since they were in a 10 they must feel like they are in a mansion now.  Instead of looking for someone with a larger tank, why not get a larger tank yourself?  I fostered an Oscar once for some friends who fell on hard times.  I did get a little attached to the big fella and I was reluctant to let him go when they were once again able to care for him.

I've tossed it around, found some 75's and a 72 bowfront that cought my fancy, but would I need something bigger for both of these guys?

                  Re: OSCARS

Oscars get really big, as you may already know.  I like the plan of getting  75 for now and then when they outgrow the 75, get a 100 and so on and so forth.  I think you can see the pattern     But then, that would be my plan even though I don't have room for any more tanks.

Oscars are very messy fish.  What type of filter system do you have on the 29?

I'll second that, szidlon. Eventually you'll want to get something bigger...or you could just go all out and get the biggest you can possibly afford to avoid the switchover later.

And great looking oscars!    I can't wait for the day when I have room for one or two.

I have an hob rated for 40 gallons per hour, and a power head for additional circulation (140 gal per hour)

how long do you think it would be before they outgrew a 60 tall? I have one that will be set up when I move into my new apartment that could buy them some time I suppose, until I get a BIG tank
