Hm... There are some mangroves that grow wild in Galveston. They are black mangroves (Avicenia germanans or something like that). Next time I drive by I'll check for seeds.

Do you mind telling me where? I've got an idea but would really like to go and take some pictures and examine the local wild life associated with them.

      Thanks,

Well there is one confirmed on Pelican Island (where A&M Galveston is), at the wetland ecology center (just off the bridge on the left). There are also many growing on east beach, but you usually have to wade through a sea of drunks to get to them... not all that fun. I attached a map...

It's not the drunks that bother you. It's that old granny beach guard in the truck that keeps running me off. I have a sticker and usually make a cruise down the beach bird watching. She has run me off two times. Telling me I'm not allowed to cruise up and down the beach. I reported her the last time to the parks people. I now have a signed and laminated letter from them authorizing me to drive on the beach as long as I am not speeding or driving recklessly. I can't wait to shove that in her face next time. By the way, thanks for confirming what I was too lazy to check out! I've seen them before and poo pooed my ID. (I'm not a botanist but a zoologist.)
