get yourself some pool filter sand. $10 for a 50lb bag.

Only problem is pool filter sand does nothing for raising your ph and cichlids like high ph

He never said he needed to raise the PH. I'm using leslies PFS in both of my cichlid tanks.

Lol most cichlids like higher ph all my tanks have aragonite and you can ask anyone my fish are very heathly colorful and breed like crazy. PFS is ok but does nothing for the health of fish that require high ph and also PFS get nasty of time and also raises the phosphate levels

              Ok

My PH is fine so me personally I don't need to raise it and my pool filter sand isn't nasty it stays spotless between weekly water changes. If the PH is low then yes, cichlid sand, crushed coral etc would be beneficial.

Everyone set up is different so there's no right answer until we know all of the facts.

And if your PH is already 8.2-8.4 there's no reason to use cichlid sand.

Its ok beefy some people just don't get it. And just to let you know King just left my place and picked up 100lbs on aragonite for his african cichlids. Some people insist on using boo boo gear

Thanks jhenry, for the sand and the lesson. As you said the one bucket is plenty in my 55gal and looks great.
